This topic has been something I've thought about for awhile. I was excited to discover a first contact module from the Space Opera RPG of the early 80's. However I just had a "duh" moment when I realized that Star Frontiers has potentially done first contact more than any other system.

    Volturnus Campaign
    1. Ul-mor- first contact happens in terms of the PCs desperately needing help
    2. Kurabung- first contact happens in terms of the PCs have a chance to help out the desperate primates

In my game, I have made the existing 2-D map into a 3-D map.  However, even with that, the map is still essentially two-dimensional.  In your games, can the players get in a ship and fly straight upward from the map, into an unseen area?  Or below the map?  Or do you have additional nebulae (or some other plot device) that limit their movements?

I was wondering if anyone ever uses the relativistic effects of FTL travel in their games.  The closer a ship gets to the speed of light, the more it is going to experience time dilation.

I've been doing a lot of thinking in terms of using resources that exist for writing adventures like the assault scout deck plans I used in the recent solo adventure : the Albatross. So it occured to me that doing a colony outpost adventure where the PCs would be the initial survey team and then set up team and latter the trouble shooters would allow you to use /reuse the diridgible and lander from Ellanor Mores, the out post and later the town map from AD and even the skylab series stations being uploaded recently that I encouraged the author to submit to the zine.

Do yinz guys use the Declare Action phase of combat?  My players have resisted declaration phases in other game though I don't mind them.

If you use them does the declaring character just lose his action when like his target is killed by somebody else?  The other game where my players complained about declared actions had the declare step before initiative so maybe SF will be better since it is after.

Do you declare in lowest to highest initative?  So side B must say what they are doing before side A?

I understand that the Void is supposed to be disorientating to beings transversing it... but I cannot seem to find much on this. I have been pondering how disorientating? Are different races affected differently?

So I'm thinking about how I'm gonna run my big ship battle and I'm considering having hull damage handled ever so slightly differently.

The rules have you take hull damage and just subtract from you hull points as a big pool

So... intercom's are a thing on a ship.

Like... why?  wouldn't everybody use there chronocoms?  Or do you think there is a reason Chronocoms don't get used like Star Trek communicators?  I was wondering if the ship's hull might interefer with the signal but you would think they would just build that into the ship (as in some sort of voice over IP style addition to the computer network).

the game has classes I, II, III

With class 3 being limited to building only system ships

    which is illogical IMO but...

I think we should designate two new classes of SCCs:

Class IV: is a planet based yard and can only build ships that may be launched into space fromt he ground with chemical rockets

Class IVa: is a planet based yard that can build the same as a class 4 but with atomic engines

Class V yards are little more than a repair shop
