GURPS Space presents the idea of the default adventure: the sort of activity that player characters are expected to do in a game. For instance, the default adventure in Dungeons & Dragons is exploring an underground complex filled with monsters, traps, and treasure.

This is a thread for Retro stuff that might or might not be useful for SF: I am silly crazy about real old Sci-Fi so to get us started is the description of a Space Bouy from a trading card: I wonder what form the future "trading cards" for kids might take, and I did convert to metrics... I wish I could figure out away to upload the image from my computer it looks like it is retro enough for SF.

During the rise in piracy that led to the First Common Muster many planetary governments had been commissioning Q ships. These ship saw action in the First Common Muster and later during the First Sathar War. Disguised as merchant vessels these paramilitary vessels were tough a tough surprise for pirates but barely stood their ground against the sathar. Of those that survived the First Sathar War, many were decommissioned and became civilian vessels.

Has there ever been a Heads Up Display goggles detailed for the game?

Some of the battle helmets, I'm sure but what about goggles with or without a link to a body comp.

What yazirian explorer wouldn't love to have a heads up display in his sun goggles showing things like time and compass direction, perhaps even a blue tooth connection to the toxyrad gauge?

Or what star law officer wouldn't love one with a facial recognition feature?

So I was reading a cracked.com list of useless human body parts. Things like your appendix and those glands behind your eyeballs which do nothing. I got my wondering, "Do the other core four races have useless body parts too?"

Of course the Vrusk exoskeleton could be thought of this way. With internal skeletons the external one is kinda useless.

So if they do have useless parts what consequences can they have? Thinking along the lines of burst appendixes and the like.

Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Re-reading Alpha Dawn, I've been reminded of how underemphasized that bare-handed brawling is. That punching someone deals so little damage, that it would take forever to seriously injure much less kill an opponent. Even with Martial Arts training, a character is just better off purchasing a nightstick to deal more damage, have a better chance of hitting, and still be able to knockout an opponent - all pretty affordably.

Everything in the Frontier runs on parabatteries.

But how long do they last?

We know that each parabattery uses a certain number of SEUs, but what does that even MEAN?

For example, let's say that you have an explorer that uses a parabattery.  If it is driving across an unexplored planet, how long before it runs out of juice?  The book states that all vehicles can travel 1000 km on one parabattery, but how does that translate into time?  How long before your robot conks out?  How long before that space station experiences a power blackout?

Interesting location where volcanic erruptions would have brought mountains of diamonds to the surface. If the temperature is below 350K long chain hydrocarbons will have formed- methane and tar- potential for rivers of crude oil.

Why visit such a place? The diamonds? liquid or frozen methane? Some other resource?

Science station placed there? Crashed ship with surviviors in need of rescue? Sathar listening post?
