It has been a long while since I last stepped into my SF zone. I found gold recently with so many sites and resources. Its amazing. However, I haven't been able to find any PBeM or PBP for SF at all. Does that still happen? I would love to find a local group, but I have never met anyone who knows SF. Do the sites or groups still exist?

The file of Dragon Magazine articles about Meta. A. is too big for my computer to convert. Any ideas?

Well yesterday I started teaching the game to everyone... I am starting everyone with Basic Ship Tactics, we did 3 battles 2 with only one weapon being used at a time (so people could get a handle on the play order, how to figure out range, % to hit and so on) 1 was a free for all blast everyone with different ships and the other the first mission in the book, then we had a frigate slug match in which you could fire everything at once.

I have long felt that the stats for creatures in SF are a bit generic.  There is not much to distinguish one creature from another in the stats.  The AD rules stat out the following:
    TYPE:
    SIZE:
    NUMBER:
    MOVE:
    IM/RS:
    STAMINA:
    ATTACK:
    DAMAGE:
    SPECIAL ATTACK:
    SPECIAL DEFENSE:
    NATIVE WORLD:

I propose that creatures should get full stats like characters.  Also, I would like input on INT and how to break it down from simple creature intelligence to sapient being.  Then also on how to grade the levels of all the other stats.

    Which one was your fave?

Which one did you play the most?

Which one really had an impact on your campaign?

Which one would/could you expand into a campaign all on its own?
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Did you see the recent article about the lost at sea Russian Cruise ship, missing for over a year in the North Atlantic, storm patterns seem to indicate ship will make landfall in UK, feared to be loaded with cannibal rats. Damn, the adventure writes itself...

Also, for those with an X-Files bent, recall the Japanese fishing boat that made it to the NA west coast after the tsunami only to be sunk by the Coast Guard... . Adventuring minds wonder what they found onboard...

After seeing Terl Obar's estimate of the energy of an SEU, I decided to do a few of my own. This is all just for fun and I doubt if there's a single value that will come out of this and I don't think one of them is going to be “right.” I just want to see what the numbers come out to be. It would be really cool to have a single value that could be used as a scale but I think that's unlikely. Please note that there are other ways of doing things and that all of these estimates

Working on the Athor militia and I need a rank structure.

My intent is to use the native american practice of having chiefs and war chiefs such that everyone in a crew of a ship is a warrior but the captian is the chief of the ship and his first officer is war chief or something similar. Alternately it could be Chief of the Ship, 2md chief, 3rd chief.

Everyone else is a warrior which is a generic term applied to everyone in the militia regardless of rank but it is also the entry level rank. However, it seems that there should be some grades within the warriors.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Terl Obar gave us a great article on a near pass of a brown dwarf through a solar system with examples generated from software simulating our solar system and this was used as an possible reason for the yazirian star exodus to the Frontier. (SFman)

I've taken to calling the Yazirian Home planet Yazira with such references as the "Garden of Yazira" in dealing with the yazirian expertese in terraforming, GODCo and in writing tenets for the Fo1 religion (FE #2)

So... I'm thinking I might need to run a quick one session warm up for my upcoming big ship adventure so I'm having them enjoying some R&R on Yast in the Athor system.

Do you think the super material needed to realize the concept of a space elevator or space tether would exist in SF?  Yes I know in "my game" I can do whatever I want, but based on other tech levels in the game would you think this is still out of thier grasp and that they simply must rely on shuttles to move things into low orbit and supply ships?
