![]() October 8, 2013 - 3:41am | The sathar create a lot of dangerous creatures. Are these creatures dangerous to the sathar? For those with cyber implants the answer would be no as you'd expect that they were programed to not attack the sathar. But many dont have cyber implants (or do they?) The idea hit me that perhaps the sathar give off a phermone or chemical signature that is "programed into the DNA" of the creature that causes it to not attack. ![]() October 5, 2013 - 4:42am | It seems we are facing a hiccup with the ship rule as presented in Knight Hawks. They present some cool ships with that realistic deck arrangement and momentum-based thrust, but they seem to be ether distracting us form how unrealistic the system is, or setting-up a false (or unnecessary) senses of realism in an otherwise cinematic-styled game. |
![]() October 4, 2013 - 7:55am | Brigantines were brought up in another thread discussing new classes of ships for the game. They were a ship with a large crew and sails and oars and could both sail or row in the calm. It got me thinking about how you would adapt that to SF since the stand out feature was two methods of propulsion: what about a solar sail combined with one of the other methods in KHs. With chemical engines it would be a lot of free propulsion in the inner system and could make a system ship just that much more economical. ![]() September 18, 2013 - 6:17am | The many of citizens of the Frontier live and work in close association with nuclear power plants- witness the common place use of atomic drives on star ships. This technology is fairly compact, reasonably safe and mature (its been around awhile and most of its bugs have been worked out. ![]() September 8, 2013 - 5:04am | The Canadian TV show Mighty Machines has been making the rounds in the Boston TV market and the kids naturally watch it and I listen to it while on the computer. Todays episode examine nautical hovercraft, Florida air boats and a paddle wheel boat. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() September 6, 2013 - 6:24am | I had the idea of making an alternative Star Frontier map with all of the star systems we all know and love (and then some), but with all those systems spread-out over greater distances, separated by uninhabited star systems - with ether lifeless rocks and gas giants, or with nothing at all. On top of that, each star would have different elevations. These uninhabited star systems may have an outpost with the spacer's equivalent to a truck-stop, and a military base (of an adjacent system) to prevent threats before they reach their homeworld. |
September 1, 2013 - 7:24pm | I've been wrestling with this for a while: there don't seem to be enough people in the UPF Spacefleet or in the Naval forces of the Frontier in General. I listed all the ships in SW2 per Knight Hawks (remastered) and the total number of personnel on mobile units, including fighters, is about 4,500. Even if you factor in Fortresses and Armed Stations and construction yards, support staff behind the scenes, the entire mobilized forces protecting the frontier come out to the equivalent today of the Canadian Armed Forces. That strikes me as a little thin for the Frontier. Sam Curry |

![]() August 29, 2013 - 3:45pm | Been thinking about starships. What is the "average" spaceship hull size in the Frontier? What is the distribution? Are there lots of little ships and only a few really big ones? Are most of the ships in the mid range? Is it evenly distributed? Obviously there have to be a lot of little HS 1-5 shuttle types ships that get things in and out of orbit. But what about the other ships? Chime off on your suggestions. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ![]() August 27, 2013 - 12:25am | I was thinking about what types of books, shows and movies each race would enjoy the most. This also includes poetry, journalism, academic works, etc. This is what I came up with: Dralasites |
