![]() April 5, 2014 - 5:43pm | I've been wondering what inspired the TSR staff to mention prison asteroids in the cannon (not sure where at the moment but I remember thinking an asteroid was not a good idea for a prison when I read it. Anyhow it seems that Space 1999 had an episode where an asteroid was drifting toward the moon and it turned out to be a prison for a powerful malovent creature that had been banished to the depth of space by his own civilization and Star Trek had Rura Pente which IIRC which was suppose to be an asteroid but it seemed to have plenty of gravity I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
April 2, 2014 - 1:41pm | So you've all had time to catch the end of "The Walking Dead" and (Spoiler) know our intrepid survivors have been captured. This also happens in alot of stories and some of the core modules like when the Eorna capture the party in the Volturnus adventure. As gamemaster or player what are your thoughts on using this plot device? Do you think it is forcing the players into a set pattern or is it an important part of the story such as delivering information to the players during a confrontation with their captors? Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
March 28, 2014 - 9:03pm | I thought this might provide an interesting plot hook - something taken from real life that can easily be adapted to a sci-fi setting. Anyway, thought I'd post it here in case anyone was interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/numbers_station http://www.damninteresting.com/number-stations/ I don't have to outrun that nasty beast my friend...I just have to outrun you! ![]() |
![]() March 27, 2014 - 6:10am | Just what is the Great Mission? to evolve a replacement species to eventually replace the eorna and stop the sathar. So what have the eorna been doing for 900 years? Their society is crippled and their industrial base is largely destroyed, so what makes them think they will be able to stop the sathar next time? In an in-elegant Borg of Star Trek sort of way the sathar pointed them in one possible direction- bio-engineered creatures. They have not been just evolving new sapient races but they have been developing air and "mechanized" role filling creatures. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
March 25, 2014 - 7:38am | I'm writing up an adventure to play over the next few sessions with my group. We played through "Bugs in the System" and are proceeding on to the next 'mission' in the campaign. As some background, the characters are employees of the Cassadine Development Corporation, part of the "Security and Special Operations" team. They act as troubleshooters in difficult situations, security on colony worlds and orbital installations, and sometimes intelligence operatives, gathering intel on the actions of other megacorps in their regional sector of space. |
March 12, 2014 - 2:25pm | I am introducing someone to SF by taking him through Dramune Run. In order to preapare, I am trying to think of as many unexpected ideas as possible. My first question is regarding the possibility of firing a ships weapons (rocket or laser battery) while docked at a station. Secondly, how easily could a ship slip away from a docking bay. Would the station have control to secure a ship? If so, is that simply a docking bay control or would it be something under the perview of station security services? |
![]() March 9, 2014 - 6:40am | In the after math of the fight to save Volturnus form first the Star Devil pirates and then the dreaded sathar it was discovered that for among the heroes of Volturnus that had participated in the Ul-mor Oneness ceremony that the ceremony had unexpected consequences. Somehow, either form the mystical alignment of the planet moons and star or something linked to Ul-mor telepathy no one knows which but certain of the heroes developed mentalist powers. One returned to Volturnus and championed the cause of the primitives during the planet's reconstruction. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() March 5, 2014 - 7:23pm | I was just thinking how the situation went down with the Dutch official that went to Crimea to see if the Russian claim that the people there wanted to be part of Russia was true and gun men pinned him in a cafe till he eventually left altogether would make story fodder for an SF adventure. ![]() March 4, 2014 - 6:56am | RE: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/3557 This project started as a place for me to work on stuff for my local table top running of the Volturnus campaign. when that campaign ended I openned the project to the community for simply working on issues with Volturnus in general but with a goal toward openning up the setting for more use ie latter adventures. Part of this was expressed as the possibilities of writing some fan modules or even recrafting the originial modules and updating them. ![]() March 2, 2014 - 4:55am | Dances With Wolves was on last night and while I've seen it a bunch of times I decided to watch it again to think about and analyze the story. Actually fell asleep during one part but the end credits had a statement that 13 years after the events in the movie the last band of Soix submitted to government authority at Fort Robinson and the great horse culture of the plains was forever gone.
