![]() April 24, 2008 - 7:09pm | Admittedly my least favorite starship design, I don't know about anyone else but I feel this ship needs a serious rework. The original canon minelayer is described as medium sized slow Ion drive powered lightly armed and armored warship. Well as a rear line supply ship that may cut it but as a front-line warship sneaking about enemy territory sometimes as forward unit behind enemy-lines this will simply not do. If I were on the crew of a mine-layer I would like my ship to be fast and stealthy with a powerful jump drive for fast get aways if discovered. |
![]() April 24, 2008 - 6:54pm | Assuming a ship does not want to decelerate and stop in a system how close can they drop out of the Void near a planet? Is there a minimum safe distance? (I'm writing an article about faster than light torpedoes. The idea is they are launched from one system to another, drop out of the Void and hit a target before the target can react.) Side note; remember the worm hole that was created when Capt. Kirk went to warp speed before clearing the solar system? |

![]() April 24, 2008 - 10:55am | Just watching some 80's cartoons on youtube and had a tought about using them as ideas for the SF universe. One example might be a campaign based about a good side "GI Joe" and a evil side "Cobra Commander". Very well defined "sides", one attacking the other always defending. Galaxy Rangers plots (thx Bill for the robot horses!) Visionaries - special abilities with powered armor .... |
![]() April 24, 2008 - 7:48am | I have begun work on a new ship class initially called the Jump Tug. The function of this vessel will be to assist other vehicles with low or no jump capability in making void jumps. Essentially this vessel would be a huge highly reliable jump drive capable of numerous jumps before requiring an overhaul which would dock/attach to the host ship and provide transport during the jump. Once the jump is completed the host ship could detach to conduct its mission. The Jump Tug could be automated/robotic or have a very small crew. |
![]() April 24, 2008 - 6:08am | During the brief Site shutdown I visited a thread at SF.org that was discussing the general characteisitcs of UPF and Sathar ship design and recognition. While as a matter of strict game canon I think this was a good idea for standardized ship construction but as a creative referee of a long standing campaign I think that these characteristics are too limiting. For example (I dont remember the list verbatim) but one point I thought was rather silly was that all Sathar Ships use Spherical command modules and have engine nacelles mounted on pylon stalks. |
![]() April 21, 2008 - 6:59am | This weekend we used Bill's new skill system along with a damage system based off Top Secret SI. Refer to: New Skill System It took a little getting used to but in the end I liked it because it gave more realism to the game. A Player or NPC could loose the ability to use a limb, get knocked out or in our case Cane hit a Sathar in the hand dislodging his sonic disruptor! (Thank you Cane). In the Alpha Dawn rules I believe todo the same a Player would have to roll a critical success. NOTE: Ablative Damage appears in the Star Frontiersman Issue 8. |
April 7, 2008 - 4:13am | I'm planning to do a contemporary version of the cult film Logan's Run (1967) using SF rules. Synopsis of alternate reality: -June 1988 : NASA starts the full scale Mars base simulation RETURN TO EDEN in the Nevada desert. 200 scientists, technicians and support personnel are sent into an underground complex covered by a semi-spherical geodesic glass dome. The simulation is scheduled to last 2 years. The complex is self-sufficient and powered by a nuclear reactor. «Language is a virus from outer space» William S. Burroughs |
April 4, 2008 - 6:28pm | I've recently created a map of the Milky Way with location of all «basic» Star Frontiers Races and D20 Future (alternity) races. Its a complete departure from the Star Frontier official story line but I thought it might be usefull anyway. Especialy, since there was an article in Star Frontierman about Alternity Races. ![]() «Language is a virus from outer space» William S. Burroughs |
![]() April 4, 2008 - 1:23pm | I realized I should have posted this earlier but it's still not too late. We are putting together an online gaming session tonight at 8pm EDT to play the KH vector battle game Art has been developing. If you haven't seen it yet, go check it out. He has implemented a whole range of ships as well as AI when playing solo or sending your fighters out to harass a target. Ad Astra Per Ardua!
