![]() September 5, 2012 - 1:02pm | I've been thinking a lot lately about some articles I was reading here. Basically the articles were talking about the old skool games (SF, D&D, GW, etc) being based on old combat simulation type games which were very mathematically oriented and complicated at the expense of story. |
![]() September 5, 2012 - 11:54am | I was just musing on this First strand of thought: I saw one post somewhere where a game master used the plastic cases from CD to create a screen that he printed art work to face toward the players and tables to face toward himself. the idea being that he liked the lower screen as it created less of a barrier between him and the players. it sounded like a good idea and in particular for science fiction games as well. Second Strand of Thought: I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() September 2, 2012 - 6:54pm | I've been enjoying exposing the kids to the Chronicals of Narnia the lastest Star Trek, and most recently The Lord of the Rings the Return of the King (its the only one we had in that trilogy). I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() August 31, 2012 - 4:13pm | At a the Childrens Museum in Boston and one popular area is the minature ethnic neighborhood- the kids love playing in the ethnic grocery store, barber shop and hair salon. This section celebrates Carribean and inner city black heritage, though the kids dont really care about that much they just like playing at adult activities like cutting hair and ringing up groceries at a cash register. Well along come "Mr & Mrs. Getto rats" and the stupid B#$%&* is running her mouth about something in the museums exhibit being prejudice. Unfreaking believable ignorant wretch! I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() August 27, 2012 - 9:06am | http://youtu.be/W-s1Tnts6UA Nerdist News' Dan Casey reports from a very special lecture held by Dr. Stephen Hawking and Dr. Kip Thorne to discuss the nature of black holes. Short 19min video - thought it might be cool to relate to Ebony Eyes. |
![]() August 23, 2012 - 9:56am | Well I'll be damned....I knew about SF Remastered, and the Star Frontiersman, but for some reason I completly overlooked the forums. Darn Sathar brain washing. Anyhoo, nice to see there's some SF activity out there on the internets. SF was the first RPG I bought myself (friend taught me D&D, that got me wanting to try anotherone). Loved the game and still love it to this day. I've wanted to create a Fantasy Grounds ruleset for Star Frontiers, but lack of XML knowledge has made it difficult, so that's hindered some online play. |
![]() August 21, 2012 - 11:01am | Since I first found this site, I have been intrigued by Jedion357's sig line from Gary Gygax that says in a nutshell that rules are not necessary. While I'm not saying that there should be no rules per se - it has shaped my approach a little as I am returning to gaming after nearly 20 years, and playing with my children. I find myself striving to make the game more story driven than I did when I was younger. |
![]() August 20, 2012 - 9:31pm | I am developing a theory that hyperspace is simply a deeper layer of the void. As one pentrates deeper into the void distances within the curvature of normal space time become shorter and shorter which accounts for why a starship can travel apparently faster than the speed of light from point a to point b through the void. As one travels deeper through the layers of the void the time required to travel between point a and point b becomes ever increasingly closer to near instantaneous travel. |
![]() August 20, 2012 - 11:57am | I'm baaaaaaack from GenCon's Family Fun Day. The son unit and I had a great time! ![]() Got to meet some Star Frontiers peeps, hang out in the Dealer Hall and fight with foam weapons (I didn't). This year was really rushed (I wasn't sure if could make it.) Now that I know a few more SF peeps in the area next year let's plan on running some games. |
