October 4, 2015 - 4:34pm | Been binge watching Dark Matter on Netflix. One thing about most RPGs is that they start with young inexperienced kids going out seeking fortune and glory. Probably because they are aimed at young people. In Dark Matter the crew is very experienced and generally much older. Wondering if anyone has tried games where gaining experience and skills was not the goal. Either a specific mission or story or something else. Yes the original Traveller this was the standard but looking for this typemof play in other games. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
![]() September 22, 2015 - 10:25am | Found this on another site, its a different take on a SF standard and might be a new wrinkle some referees might like. https://strolen.com/viewing/Direct_Neural_Programming_Psychosis I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() September 22, 2015 - 7:25am | Silver Death Cult, a cadre & criminal organization for sure but why is it a Cult? Could it be that their beliefs against non biologicals reaches the area of religious belief? What we can assume is that the organizers chose the name Cult for whatever their reason. Info on SDC here: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/4563 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() August 30, 2015 - 10:36pm | For those who don't know, a confederation is a "union of political units for common action in relation to other units. Usually created by treaty but often later adopting a common constitution, confederations tend to be established for dealing with critical issues (such as defense, foreign affairs, or a common currency), with the central government being required to provide support for all members." — (from Wikipedia) |
August 29, 2015 - 10:51am | I haven’t played SF with my kids for over a year now. I am
kicking around ideas for a new campaign this winter. I want to get away from
the frontier and have the kids explore various planets with populations at
assorted levels of advancement (stone age, iron age, steam punk, dawn of the
nuclear age, etc.). |
![]() August 22, 2015 - 4:17pm | This review of this product was posted at the Star Frontiers Goole community: http://followmeanddie.com/2015/08/21/the-graveyard-at-lus-review/ I'm rather taken with the idea. The product provides a method for random generation of a graveyard of destroyed ships (from a battle) as well as generating the time since the battle. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
August 21, 2015 - 6:07am | I'm toying with the idea of this being possible in the adventure I'm running at the moment. I'm guessing that it could be role-played, but could also be played out via tabletop and hexes. I don't see them as being particularly manoeuvrable without some penalty, especially to the crew inside. A shuttle could perhaps be armed with a single heavy laser/Ke-5000 in a small turret. This allows shooting both in space and in atmospheres, and could draw power from a parabattery. |
![]() August 19, 2015 - 9:12pm | Years ago, I reading about how dangerous and pointless portholes are on a spaceship, especially a warship, on Atomic Rockets. Basically, they are a structural weak points on the hull; ship weapons, like lasers and nukes, can blind the crew; view ports are irrelevant to ship's navigation and gunnery (everything is too far apart); and there is nothing really to see but perpetual nighttime (all those colorful imagery of are just UV/IR filters) that could cause the crew to become distressed over time. |
![]() August 18, 2015 - 6:44am | If there is such a thing, the sathar would focus on "turning" the officers to keep the bulk of the prisoners in line. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() August 17, 2015 - 1:31pm | Hi kiddos. Just found this site, but maybe it's dead now? I see people online, so who knows... just that the most recent posts are a LONG time ago. Anyways, thought you'd all appreciate this game I made. I call it Distress on Life Liner 928 (LL928; a call back to the old Lego space set). It's a Star Frontiers / Savage Worlds conversion that I run using Legos. So far I've run it over half-a-dozen times at a combination of Stragicon, GoPlayNW, Jackercon, and for friends. Here's the premise: |
