December 2, 2010 - 6:15pm | As I'm starting to think about the Equipment lists and what is possible with the tech level of the Frontier I start looking for TV shows or movies that might inspire the type of tech in Star Frontiers. Now if we discount artificial gravity, warp drive, and replicators, I think Classic Star Trek (the adventures of Kirk, and company) had a lot of technology that could be included in SF (tricorders, communicators, phasers etc). Also Space 1999 has the level of tech appropriate for Star Frontiers. Anyone else have any other suggestions? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

All this talk of 'What is SF cannon' and I see David Zeb Cook submitted thought computers, cloning, memory recording and more. Kinda outside the scope of what most of us like about SF. Anyway, got inspired to draw his vehicle. I submitted it for Issue 16 if we lack gear, otherwise I could throw it in #17. |
November 22, 2010 - 8:53am | Because you know I love doing this to you guys. Lets discuss what is canon. do we take canon to be only what is written in AD, KH and begrudgingly Zebs guide, Or does canon include everything including the modules. Or do you consider canon materials to include everything TSR wrote about Star Frontiers (thus canon includes every TSR article in Dragon magazine, and everything in those endless quest books)? November 21, 2010 - 11:04am | Okay guys at last the Sathar Homeworld is revealed.... Sathar: One hundred fifty light years beyond the Xagig Dust Nebula lies a desolate planet with a thin, brownish, nitrogen atmosphere. Known only as XJ-3, this planet is home to the Sathar, sentient creatures that evolved from wormlike ancestors over millions of years. The Sathar rose to dominance on XJ-3 mainly because of the absence of competing species. November 20, 2010 - 4:16pm | I came across this and had to share it with you guys. According to d20 future the homeworlds of Dralasites, Vrusk, and Yazirians are as follows: Dralasite: Dralasites evolved on the ice-ringed world of Terledrom in the Fromeltar system. A stormy world, Terledrom is veiled in perpetual mist, and many dralasite cities are carved into the walls of great river-canyons that scar the planet's surface. ![]() November 18, 2010 - 11:48am | I was doing a little research on star clusters looking to understand the Formad Cluster after checking with Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_cluster It doesn't seem likely this could be a globular cluster and an Open cluster is unlikely as well though we might force it to be an open cluster What might be a viable possibility is a Hyper Compact Stellar System (HCSS) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercompact_stellar_system I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() November 17, 2010 - 5:44pm | Anyone ever notice that the Rim systems tend to be high habitable real estate star systems? Well at least the home systems for the Rim races are. Look at Osak! 5 inhabited worlds and many of those have moons being used for various purposes Capella and Fochrik have 3 inhabited world each. Just how much inhabitable real estate can we have in star system without stretching believability to D&D fantasy levels? ![]() November 17, 2010 - 10:06am | The rules state that for the computers and robotic skills equipment of an alien design carries a -20% mod for performing any subskill on it. I think to a certain degree this is appropriate for weapons designed for a specific race. ie a human using a vrusk designed weapon. Stuff on the standard equipment list can be deemed to be of a design that is easily modifiable/convertable to the requirements of the core four or a player may specify that his vrusk bought an exclusively vrusk designed weapon.
