Nice... There needs to be a little turncoat monkey in the first installment. And some bad dates.

Should a Cassidine Jones and the Raiders of Volturnus adventure include a rival archaeologist character as the movie did? Perhaps a PGC team that is poaching artefacts on a planet claimed by the Pale Republic.

The Openning to Indiana Jones involved a temple exploration that set the tone for the movie, showed how resourceful the hero is, and established the French archeaologist as a class 1 prick.

Cassidine Jones "en media res" adventure openning could be something similar set on Lossend. Wypongs would be cast in the role of the blow gun using primitives (they use bows and arrows but why not blow guns too?) and a PGC archeaologist cast in the role of the French jerk (supported by some Galactic Task Force muscle. PCs as Indiana Jones split into a scientific team.

Temple with traps. object of desire is a gold idol the wypongs beleive is a "sky god" (see Layover on Lossend).

What reason would the PGC guy order the wypongs to kill Cassidine? He doesn't want it to become common knowledge that he obtained the only known representation of a wypong "sky god"?

Possible outcomes of Dr. Belloq trying to hi-jack the idol (note: it should be obvious that Belloq has overwhelming firepower in the form of explorers with heavy weapons and 30-60 wypongs armed with primitive weapons) and killing wypongs is a big no no with the local authorities:
1. PCs escape with their lives
2. PCs manage to escape with the idol
3. Party deaths and or TPK

How to handle a TPK at the start of the adventure: make it a dream sequence that one member of the party had but couldn't remember till 5 seconds before exiting the temple: ie the players get a do over but they should be put on notice that further future foolish courses of action will result in very permanent PC death.

Purpose of encounter: establish PGC archeaologist as class one pricks and prepare the players to want revenge later.

"Once again there is nothing you can posess that I cannot take away"

Act 1.1 Raiders of Volturnus-

A strange Artifact is brought to the Triad Institute of Technology for appraisal and identification by experts (PCs and assundry NPCs if neccessary). Its cleary the product of an unknown civilization which is of great importance to the TIT.

Two lines of investigation:
A. the original seller who is a Star Devil pirate who was looking to make some extra credits on the side unbeknownst to crew mates or his leader. Which when the PCs try to close in on him will be the scene of pirate justice on him.
B. the metalurgy of the object matches that of another curious artifact sold by one Zebulon Sectite that ended up at the University of Point True and the chief professor investigating it confered with a colleague at TIT via subspace such that scans he transmitted are in the data base at TIT and point the team at Pale.

The above has some skill checks and a combat that could spill over to the PCs.

Deep background: take the Volturnus Connection from Dragon as gospel (more or less) and the Star Devil is supported by PGC. He is raiding volturnus which is legally claimed by the Truane Star government. there is also a PGC team there raiding artifacts from sites like Volkos with an eye toward securing new technology for PGC.
