jedion357 January 6, 2011 - 6:07pm | Refer to: Time to Void Jump Speed . I've been thinking about the difference between ADF 1 and 1g. and in a Frontier where the inertial screan exists I can easily imagine the tech behind the inertia screen being used as a dampening feild on a ship travelling at 1 ADF or higher. Lets face it the warships have upto 5 ADF and yet the crews still do their skills: gunners still operate their guns, engineers still do damage control and etc. even at 4-6g equivellent they're able to perform their skills. In the interest of game balance though I'd rule that inertia screens cant be activated withing the dampening field lest it short out In fact starliners rigorously screen and check for inertia screens and secure them in a locker lest some idiot activates it "just to see" This will simplify things and we can just use 1ADF most of the time. However, its equally likely that quite a few trap freighters dont have the dampening field and are forced to move at 1g most of the time. Could even have a plot device where the players get a ship but it lacks the dampening field, enforcing all sorts of problems and trade off till they could come by a dappening field. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Will the Stampede January 6, 2011 - 11:39pm | I like the inertia screen for a dampening field idea, tho, as I think about it more and more, I believe the KH creators confused acceleration with delta-v, which would mean ADF 1 would be (approximately)equal to a delta-v of 16.67 km/s(10,000 km/600s). That idle speculation aside, the inertia screen technology being used for a dampening field could evolve into said dampening field neutralizing enough high-g acceleration to end up providing one standard gravity as a side effect. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
Ascent January 8, 2011 - 2:45pm | That's why I created the scaled movement. I updated the system so that it makes more sense now: Scaling on the Fly I've been wondering about 1g movement. I know that the acceleration while scaling peters out at a certain point because of the 1g acceleration. So scales 8-10 are more for the speed you're already traveling at and not for accelerating on. Knowing the calculation gee-force rating of the extremities of a ship while maneuvering would also be ideal to completing the information. Ascent January 24, 2011 - 7:33pm | If I calculated correctly, one Knight Hawks hex of acceleration equals 2.8 gn's. 1gn acceleration is equal to 9.80665 m/s2 (That's seconds x seconds x meters x 9.80665.) To calculate for kph, divide by 1000 and divide by 3600. If I remembered it correctly. Play with it if I didn't state it right. I don't have my notes with me.
