Hi all
I'm doing a kit bash and scratch build of a SF cycle miniature and I'm looking for some feedback and Ideas
Here's some of the raw materials I'm working with:
http://dwarfhammerworkshop.spaces.live.com/default.aspx
NOTE: I'd have picked up some GW models of hover cycles or trikes a long time ago but there is this phenominum on ebay that people want to get the new in the box price for their used and poorly assembled and pieces missing 40K models and I'd sooner buy a new box but I dont cause of my love/hate relationship with GW.

So I've given up on trying to catch a deal and got off my butt and started a scratch build project with a hot wheels bike and some other parts.

What I'm looking for is ideas and feed back and or art work to base the model off of. I'll utimately make my own decisions, many based off whats feasible and workable on the model side, but I'm a bit of an idea whore so if I like yours I'll steal it!
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Well I saw a pic on the internet of a hoversled where the operator stands up and an idea took me so heres the blog of the building and some pics:
http://dwarfhammerworkshop.spaces.live.com/?lc=1033

I still have all the other parts from the original blog on the kit bash so I still have to build something with them too.

EDIT: just did a size comparison to the figures I commonly use and to test 2 minis on the sled:

I think it looks like the dech extends too far off the motor housing without enough support for the weight of the back rider.

Just for a cost comparison on a GW 40K model:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110369728776
(to be honest thought this is long OOP and the "squats" or space dwarves were pretty popular before GW killed the line)

and my model has run me les than $2.00 in raw materials if you dont count the magnets (most people wouldn't use magnets).  Of course, I'm not finished with this model yet so I cant really say what the total cost will be and some materials are impossible to estimate the cost of- green stuff epoxy to sculpt the handles? the amount used will be so small.

HA!
That was pretty good.
Can you do a temp mount  of the fan under the platform and snap a couple pics? i would like to see that.
Time flies when your having rum.

not sure what your asking the craft mounts on its flying stand because of the magnet in the fan housing and the piece of paper clip in the flying base, is it that you want to see it clearly floating or just the underside?

your platform sits on the the plastic "cage" from the fan shaped magent.  I was wondering if you could remount the fan blade back under the "cage" to give the impression that it is what help it hover.
Just curious to see what it looks like that way.

The fan blade, in this case one designed to look like one form a protable air fan, is all worng for a hover craft.
Hover fans are not very much to look at (the one I dealt with was a squat cylinder shape that spin and the air came out the sides) as they dont force air dowm but out against the hover skirt.  (Why hover craft dont float like Luke skywalkers speeder; the hover skirt stays in close contact with the ground holding the air in more or less.
technically this cycle should have a hover skirt but the fan shape suggests hover capable so I didn't mess around with making an accurate model as its likely that future tech we haven't even dreamed of will make
hover vehicles like this possible.

none the less here is the fan mounted on a stirling motor (external combustion) which is apropo as its on a steam punk scout balloon and the motor becomes more effecient at higher altitude (not sure why but I bet some one around here could explain the physics) I just couldn't stomache the idea of a steam boiler on a balloon.
