I really like needler weapons but i feal restricted by the two ammos.  Couldn't you have needler rounds with other drugs in them (biocort, telall)?

(insert sarcastic comeback here)

Hey if you want to add those kinds of ammo go ahead it would be a great contribution to the project. Oh, and keep the ideas flowing. It helps keep the project going.

I agree that there should be some more attention given to the under-appreciated needler. I also would like to see a more realistic approach to the really lethal concept behind the needler or up the power of the weapon with a newer version. Nothing like a hyper-sonic flying razor sharp needle(s) to really wreck your plans for the weekend. Maybe low velocity settings for less lethal results such as druging and high velocity settings for punching some serious holes in a target.

Brings back memory's of getting my very first weapon. A needler!
Of course...the Hydra just laughed when I hit him. :-(

There was a fascinating idea for needler weapons in the Schwartzneger movie "Eraser" but as I recall that was a needle (or spike) type grenade. I think the idea has merit for use in SF and the scene illustrates the absolute nasty-ness potential of needle weapons (not to mention portable rail guns/gaus rifles but thats probably another discussion altogether). Another concept to consider would be armor piercing needles (as in the material they are made of). After-all a needle round is much like a shot gun pellet in theory and could theoretically be coated with materials that rapidly damage or penetrate armor (possibly on a nano or molecular level). Much in the way of uranium depleted sabot rounds in modern warfare cut through steel like it was butter or the just down and dirty trick and extremely illegal act of teflon coating a bullet in order to penetrate Kevlar. I think one of the reasons the needle gun was considered so under-powered was the fact that it would be a high penetration type weapon without much kinetic force for knock down power. So a character could be hit with a needler and still be standing but be cut to ribbons by the attack. Maybe a rule for stamina loss (as in blood loss) or stamina checks could be devised to simulate the effect of a needler attack that makes a solid hit on a subject until medical attention is administered to the wound. Just a few ideas i'm kicking around. I am not one for wanting a lot of over complicated rules but I feel that the original AD rules made needlers seem to be a very weak weapon.

I bet that didn't go over to well with the Hydra. It may have hurt his feelings a little. Was it angry afterwards? Was there a lot of running and hiding....lol

I agree. I think that most of the problem with needlers is that you can't get them up to the proper speed for penetration.
