Clarion is a beautiful pristine planet on the edge of the White Light Nebula. Clarion's major city, Moline, is the base of operations for Eversafe Ent. megacorp.

The Royal Marines currently have 300 personnel and 4 ships. Only 50 of the marines are crew members the rest are stations based support personnel, such as technicians, computer programers, boarding parties, and station police.

Officer Rank structure:
Commander. The commander is the highest ranking officer in the Royal Marines. Only one individual holds this rank an any one time. The commander of the Royal Marines is usually a member of Clarion's royal family.

Captain: Three officers currently hold captain's rank: the captain of the frigate Leo and two officers on the Commanders staff.

Lieutenant. The officers in command of the assault scouts hold this rank, as do many officers on the commander's staff.

Junior Lieutenant: Most of the skilled crewmembers aboard the Royal Marine ships are Jr. Lieutenants. These officers also lead boarding parties.

Midshipman. These are the rookies among the Royal Marine officers, and this is the rank the characters receive upon enlistment. Midshipmen are generally not allowed to command enlisted men.

The Royal Marines wear a holstered laserpistol and military skeinsuit at all times. When on duty they wear an albedo screen. Other side arms of choice are allowed.

Not that the entry on Midshipmen mentions enlisted men but their ranks are not detailed.

Life in the Royal Marines

Barracks: Members of the Royal Marines live in a large ares of the residential deck of Clarion Station. Any character with spaceship skill of any level recieves a private cabin. Technicians and other low level specialist are required to bunk 2 to 4 individuals per cabin.

The Royal Marines have a dining hall but they may do their own cooking if they wish. Each cabin has a small kitchen area for this purpose. A large recreation area is also available for the use of the Royal Marines.

An elevator connects the residency deck to the docking hub. The ride takes 5 minutes whether going up or down. The elevator will arrive in 1d10 minutes after the call button is pressed.

Several mini elevators connect the residency deck to the business deck below. The ride takes one turn (6 seconds) and the wait for the elevator is 1d5 turns.

Induction. Immediately after entering the Royal Marines, new enlistees are run through a brief training course on Clarion Station. The course lasts 20 days, and teaches the fundamentals of militia routine and standard porcedures for dealing with various problems.

Pay. Pay is by the NPC wage table. However, characters will get to keep all of their pay, since the Royal Marines provide free food and lodging. Payday occurs every 10 day.

Security. The Royal Marines are in charge of station security. Although the characters responsible for this police work are in a separate branchof the service, all Royal Marines in an area can be called in when trouble breaks out.

Spaceport Traffic. A starship arrives at Clarion Station about once every 100 to 200 minutes (2-3 hours). Shuttles leave for the planet even more frequently. The heavy traffic brings thoughsands of characters of all four species through the station, so huge crowds can be seen milling about the business deck at all hours.

The major corporations of the Frontier have offices at Clarion station. Agents for these companies can be encountered throughout the business deck.  Independent freighter owners and pilots are also common, searching for cargos or buyers.

Entertainment.  Nightclubs and resturants of all sorts are common on the station, from the cheapest dive to the most elegant dining room.  A dinner can be purchased for 5 Cr. to 200 Cr. Many places have live music.

The Dance and Dice is a favorite hangout for spacers of all types. Characters can try their luck gambling by rolling d100.
Result 00 payout x25 the bet
Result 99 payout x10 the bet
Result of doubles x7 the bet
any other result is no payout
Minimum bet is 50 Cr.

Rumor has it that the dice at Dance and Dice may not be honest and there are plenty of bouncers to help unruly patrons find the door.

Ive often wondered about the detials of the White Light Government. It seems TSR was tipping their hat to the british empire and  Horatio Hornblower when they started the White Light modules. The reference to tenday shows there is room for radicle departures from earth forms, and yet ship names are Earth animals.

Yes. So what planet is inhabited by Osprey?

Is it possible the human presence in the frontier is a lost tribe?

I've oftain thought the sister to the Generation ship from Metamorphosis Alpha "Warden" went off course and ended up in Frontier space.

Perhaps Humans in the frontier experienced a period of "loss tech" after the gen ship crashed and emerged from it as the Dralastites and vrusk were at a similar stage of development?

The history blurb in the AD basic book explicitly says that in another galaxy not the Milky Way another species of humans evolved.

So canon wise Earth doesn't exist.

However, I dont really like this for a number of reason. And Gygax and other luminaries have explicitly stated that you should change what you dont like.

Other cannon statements suggest a long history for Clarion, several centuries I believe.

Zebs timeline is a hash although presented in an easier to locate and use form than the cannon statements strewn thru the rule books and some modules. However Zebs clearly contradicts AD material and in parts is just illogical and makes no sense.

contemplating working on a cannon time line
A- strict compliation of cannon statements not in Zebs
B- Canon + curated Zebs timeline - by curated I mean chopped and pruned
C-Canon + curated Zebs and Fan-canon materail

Item A would be a handy thing to have.

Item B would be something I would use.

I was working on the Time line project 7 years back but it got derailed with the death of my mother, my divorce and moving to maine and other sturggles.

Now might be a good time to rvive this

Look for a "If We Could Put Timelines in a Bottle...." article soon which will be a AD + modules+Dragon articles timeline lthanks to the heavy lifting that Laura Mumma did on that.

I believe that it will be one of those articles that is a got to for many people. for years to come
