![]() April 24, 2015 - 11:35am | Any of you lot backers for Star Citizen... I got the basic Freelancer and my buddy ropped me into being an officer in his organization (Legion of Cthulhu -- http://legion-of-cthulhu.enjin.com/?set-browser-type=web ) Seems like its a game that would be up the alley of the peeps here. ----------------------------------------------- |
![]() April 22, 2015 - 7:52am | Watching a documentary on WWII submarines in the Pacific theater. They talked about submarine tenders. These were surface ships which acted as mobile repair and resupply bases for subs. This helped to eliminate the need to travel more than 1000 miles back to base especially after being damaged. Since Assault Scouts require an overhaul after each jump and do not have storage space for long patrols then a ship built to do these things would be a natural in the UPF Space fleet inventory. Anyone think they can design one? Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
![]() April 21, 2015 - 3:52am | Interesting article in the NY Times on the benefits of having a hobby with particular focus on the neurological effects in the brain. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/03/business/worldbusiness/03iht-workcol04.1.8567149.html?_r=1& So can RPGs be a hobby? I think yes. I'm heavily involved in the fan magazines and I believe that its part of my sanity solution for the crazy world I live in but something about it is lacking in a way that painting wargame miniatures better fits the information in this article. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
![]() April 19, 2015 - 6:58am | I finally got a chance to actually look these games through with more detail. (I am super sick... was exposed to mold spores and now have a chest thing going on, so in bed coughing up my lungs resting up so I can survive the next work week) Now these games are very different from SF, they are strategic empire building games, with some very complex ideas/mechanics in SE. However there are some things I noted besides Tetrarchs being in the Background History (aka timeline) and races that could easily be the seed ideas for Dralasites & Vrusks. ![]() April 2, 2015 - 9:38am | ![]() These arrived today for the wife and I. We lost our rings about 2 months after we were married. We never replaced them...for 28 years. I saw these and sent her a picture. I ordered them about 20 min later. She was so happy that I had thought about replacing them that, even though she's not a huge Who fan, she'd be happy to wear them. You can't argue with the invincibly ignorant. - William F. Buckley |
![]() March 23, 2015 - 8:40pm | We're going to try another on-line gaming con again this year. There has been interest expressed in several different forums across the internet so we'll see what happens. You can find all the details on the con website at http://starfrontiers.info/NetCon/2015. If you want to play in or run a game, or even if you just want to sit in on a game session, jump on over to the site and get registered. The cost is free so it doesn't hurt to sign up. And help spread the word. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ![]() March 17, 2015 - 4:52am | Happy Green Day! I was thinking about Human Culture and the strange things we do and then how you would explain it to an alien... "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
![]() March 15, 2015 - 9:27am | I was looking over my notes on the Sol-Corps colonization plan from C.J. Cherryh's books and the STL tech used to get from system A to system B is a combination slingshot, solar sail. Now based on my notes from the net (I do not have the books this tech appears in) the ships might be reaching speeds near C. I did the math using the timeline notes I have and it seems that the time of Travel in Earth Years is X LY between systems rounded (distance) + 1 additional year (probably representing part of the acceleration & deceleration time is my guess). ![]() March 8, 2015 - 4:07pm | If you thought from the previews of this movie that it was possibly a re-imagining of Short Circut 1886 "Number 5 is alive!" you'd be correct, mostly. Its a darker movie set in a near future dystopian Johannesberg, South Africa; where 300 murders/ day necessitated the use of robotic police "scouts". Human officers are still used but the scouts take point in tactical situations and are the "Nodwick" to go through the door first.
