Rereading "Red Storm Rising" because I loved that book back in the day and because I picked up a hard bound copy for $1.50 @ Goodwill.

In it an analyst points out that in Russian media they will criticize specific individuals and never generalize. In the examples it was military men not obeying orders. So that they would never talk about privates in the army not obeying their Sgts. as that could be construed as a criticism of Soviet society which is perfect of course. Rather they will name the 11 privates and criticize them for their specific "sin".

Some blue sky speculating but was wondering what others think. Sound off in the comments. (I've also posted this in the Facebook and Google+ groups so keep an eye out for the #reviveStarFrontiers hashtag for other parts of this discussion)

Like Hepplewhite? Why? Was someone at TSR into antique tables? Was there a Hepplewhite table present in the offices? Did the writer working up the sample adventure score a Hepplewhite table at a yard sale for $20?

Side note: when Marshal Applewhite and his heaven's Gate group were making their Ascension to the UFO following in the tail of the Hale-Bopp comet and were making headlines in 1997. I immediately thought of Star Frontiers misremembering the ships name.

Recently encountered"Edge of Tomorrow" which is in my estimation a mash up of Ground Hog Day meets Aliens.

We all know Hollywood is notorious for doing remakes that don't need to be done and screwing it up. But I'm rather taken with this somewhat remake of Groundhog Day, a classic I rather liked.

So my question is classic movie Mash ups as sci Fi adventures: what's your suggestion?

Kids and I played Knight Hawks yesterday and later we discussed a movie to watch with pizza which inevitably meant Jaws being mentioned- my kids love Jaws.

Idea emerged: Jaws as a table top wargame? I had played in something similar at Historicon which was Moby Dick as a war game- each player had a whaling long boat and the whale was diced as to where he would appear and whether it was just the tail, hump or whole head out of water. The guy had sculpted the three piece of whale- it was cool. I missed out on landing a harpoon and having my boat go for a Nantucket sleigh ride.

Return of the King is on and in it Gandolph says, "The board is set and the pieces are in motion"

    Got me thinking about that.

RPG fantasy setting- a game of wizards chess (not necessarily like that in Harry Potter) where Moves on the board happen in accordance with whats happening in the wider world sort of a forshadowing of stuff for the PCs.

In TSR material along with a lot of sci-fi material for entertainment, plot elements involve holes in space. TSR has space ships sucked into Blackholes that then get spit out as at least one D&D module...this implies the existence of Whiteholes in the general RPG universe of TSR.

So Blackholes, Whiteholes, Wormholes, and dimensional rifts (space potholes) are probably all usable but story telling plot elements may not be very scientific I think.
