 May 8, 2011 - 8:50pm | This one shows how the other two maps fit together, it is fairly large in full size. Each ring is 500parsecs (over 1500 Light Years) and the bubbles are still only showing approximate positions of various interstellar phenomenon, with no easily readable distinction. I had to peace the whole thing together from screenshots. The labels that can be seen on the other two are the same on this one, but they are not very helpful in identifying anything. The purpose I started this project for was to give a perspective of just how outrageously far away from Sol the Frontier would need to be, using an actual map of known space to find a suitable crowded cluster, inside a dense nebula, and be within an appropriate distance to be a center-point for the other races to meet. I found allthese conditions are met over 2,500 Parsecs(over 8,000 Light Years) away at the closest. Closer possibilities lacked one or two of the required elements, usually density of the cluster, or the distribution and scale of the surrounding nebula. Finding positions with equal interest at least to the local loop within a comparable equidistant range, was also problematic (triangulating suitable places for the other two races, was difficult). But I decided to upload this part of the incomplete project, somewhat unsatisfied, and figuring no one would really care to hear about, or care to use my assumptions anyway.  The other reason is because maps of such scale with any resolution are hard to come by. Final evaluation of the best real-estate for all criteria- The trips would have been one-way seed ships, making at minimum 300jumps, each at maximum range, I figure about one month between jumps would give it a 25year trip, and cover the necessity of cool-down/engine refits/exploration of each waypoint/and astrogation calculating another maximum range jump to an unexplored destination, being done by early versions of the current FTL Drive. Oh humans!!  We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?".~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
