The next major project that I'll be tacking in the ever increasing Universal role Playing System, will be a fantasy supplement for the system lovingly referred to as Sword & Sorcery. This system came about because I had created a version of Dungeons & Dragons which took the focus off of miniatures and brought the game back to it's role playing roots, while offering a tremendous amount of versatility for players to create whatever type of hero they wanted. this system while good increased the power levels of the characters opon retrospect too much, and so when I started working on the revised Star Frontier's rules I started to think about how the Hero template could be applied to my Dungeons & Dragons rules.

After some consideration I began to see the potential for a classless system for Dungeons and Dragons, and boiling down the Archtypical classes to a list of components that a player can use as a guideline when putting his hero together to emulate. Many D&D purists would balk at these changes if I dared call this Dungeons & Dragons, and so I changed the title to Sword & Sorcery and so this system was born.

I hope that this system will offer gamers an interesting alternative to Dungeons & Dragons, and is not in anyway my attempt to turn any D&D players away from that game system, but just to make a fantasy game that is fun like all the other URS games.

I started work on the book this morning and have managed to get 26 pages into the book. the initial steps to creating a character have been locked in and the races have all been put into the system. The core races are:

Dwarves (Hill Dwarves, and Mountain Dwarves)
Elves (Grey Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, Half Elves)
Gnomes
Halflings
Half Ogres
Half Orcs
Humans

Next on the to do list is putting in all the different Human cultures that exist in the western lands of Angarde the continent where the default campaign takes place. So far I'm happy with the races, they have been toned down from what they had become in my original AD&D game, but I am happy with how they came out.

Like each of the rule sets I've put together for the URS I hope that eventually they can be shared with others and maybe they will become a part of someone's gaming rotation. I think that if that were to happen I'd be thrilled beyond words.

So far its been a very productive weekend. I've managed to go through all the Human cultures and fix up the skill section and feats and started work on the equipment lists. I'm roughly 80 pages into the core rulebook which I estimate will probably hit around 180 or so pages. I'm keeping the book manageable by keeping the magic rules out of the book because if i did add them the book would become over 300 pages and I really would hate to have you guys have to virtually lug around a book of that size.

I finished it!

The Core rulebook for the Sword & Sorcery rules set was completed and I decided to include the magic rules in the book which made it a whopping 356 or so pages. I'll probably start working on the Administrator's guidebook and the first Monstrous Compendium soon, but at least the core book has been finished, and I'm happy with how it turned out.
