Port Loren Raiders:the game

Refer to: Security Breach at Port Loren (revised).

You have been contacted by Beren Tiu, your liason officer at Pan Galactic headquarters, to investigate a breach in security at several top research centers. Someone has broken into these centers and destroyed valuable equipment. The raiders never set off any alarms and never were stopped by anti-intruder security systems. Your mission is to find out why the raids are taking place and to end them.

You have met at the Security Service building to discuss your new assignment and talk to some experts about why the security at the research centers failed. You are in the main computer room where data collection and analysis is handled. The chief of security and the head programmer, both Humans, are helping you. Also in the room are four technicians: a Human, a monkey-like Yazirian, an insectoid Vrusk and an ameboid Dralasite.

The programmer shows you a small computer cabinet containing thousands of crystal wafers. "The security information and command controls for all our research centers are stored here," he says. "We ran a thorough check of all the systems and couldn't find anything wrong. There is no way the raiders could have broken in." The programmer and chief seem puzzled.

What would you like to do?

OOC...

BTW, am I jumping the gun on my declerations? Sorry if I am....

Gloob is currently an NPC, correct?

Also, I just read in the rules that a chronocom can be used to sumon a rental skimmer.... (basic rules, page 8..... ;-) Could one get to us fast enough to make a difference? If so, I'd like to add that to someone's todo list..... ;-)

K'liKit continues through the door after Gramic as fast as he can.

Presuming you end up in the same square as Gramic? Otherwise you can end up anywhere between your starting position at the west door and Gramic.

Quote:
Sounds good to me.... I do it.... (any chance an auto-rifle could dissable a hovercar? How crowded are the streets? Sounds like a good time to get out a Frag grenade and toss in / under a hovercar....)

Into chronocom -- "Gloob, can you get you get your cycle? Who'se closes?"

Presuming your final position is in the same square as Geiger (you're both human, same movement rates) you may shot at any one of the three targets (as an auto rifle burst only covers 5m, or one square). You can shoot the skimmer, the vehicle damage table on p22 of the expanded rules states that 2d10 are rolled and adding the #dice of the weapon to detrermine a result. Also, structure points are treated as double STA points. In any event, you can expect going through a few clips before disabling a vehicle.

Traffic is currently light, with an occassional vehicle passing by.

Gloob's response on the com: "Possible but unlikely, I'm still in the security building. Head monkey in charge is darting out the door, I'm taking chase."

Quote:
W00ty: chase after Gramic howling like a bezerk banshee (W00t in Rage?) And shoots when can.... (Last I checked, W00t has a Laser Pistol in my hand....)

Woot is trying to work himself up into battle rage but not making it. He is currently brandishing his laser pistol.

Right, anyone can call a skimmer. It takes two turns to arrive once the call is made. Woot can make the call if nobody else does.

He appears to be preparing to bolt across the street. You're not 100% sure, but you think he may have tossed something into the skimmer, which has two occupants inside (a human and a yazirian, the latter at the wheel).

OOC: If we go by the letter of the game rules, there's no possible way I can attempt to squeeze in before the door closes and grapple for the disc, but if you tend towards realism, there may be a chance. Which do you prefer?

We've gone "by the rules" up to this point, so to change it now as this is the final door seems a bit off to me...but if the foot chase goes into other buildings later in the game I can always go for realism and offer a DEX check for tailers to make it through the door before it closes (I like realism, too). Sound fair?

Anyways, you'll be on his heels once through the door as you can end your turn in any square between the door and Gramic (including the same square as Gramic). Preceding info assumes you do continue chasing Gramic and end up in his vicinity at the end of your move.

To have a chance to track down the raiders, I go ahead and attempt to catch up with Gramic as fast as I can and attempt a grapple with him.

OOC: If it hadn't been for a certain Dral who buckles under pressure, K'liKit might have been able to recover that disk.

Can Guenther 'queue' his shot by yelling at the folks in the car to "STOP! Hands up slowly where I can see 'em NOW!" while pointing an AutoRifle at them, and if they don't comply (aka, start driving / want to shoot me) I get my shot?

You can make a verbal attempt, presuming you keep on Geiger's heels (ending in the same square so you can see the vehicle to make such a declaration). However, in doing so you're right next to Geiger who is also sporting a fresh clip. Woot can follow KliKit out the door to join the group.

Gunther thinks it's best to focus on the guy about to shoot at him, so I stop 6m short of Geiger and then I shoot at him.... (my PG range / his Short.) If I get cover behind the tree there on the corner while still having a shot, I angle a bit to the right to get behind the tree

And, um, could I change W00t's action to go into the 'Transportation Complex' to rent a hovercar soonest (talking to them on the chronocom while he runs in to start the process)? If too late, I call from outside, take a shot at Geiger if I can, then go to the closest point to quicly get a hovercar.

jag, these are Star Law Rangers. Ranger means their jurisdiction is not limited. They can legally confiscate a car at will in any jurisdiction in the Frontier. They don't have to rent. They can also deputize citizens at will.

K'liKit catches up to Gramic and attempts to grapple him, but misses with a 65.

Guenther rushes to the shrubbery and drops to one knee and unleashes a burst through the foliage at Geiger, hitting with a 23 for 34 points! Halved to 17 by the skeinsuit and having suffered prior damage earlier, he succumbs to the final blow and drops to the ground.

Woot makes it into the transportation complex to acquire a skimmer, and must now deal with the person at the counter who begins with the standard sales pitch...

Gloob rushes to tag the yaz leader with a short range sonic stunner blast, scoring an 07 and hitting the fleeing yaz right in the spine. The burly yaz makes his STA check yet again...and the door closes between himself and Gloob (who misses his RS check to follow). Having hit the yaz several times now with the stunner, Gloob curses in his native dral tongue and switches to his laser pistol as his third pseudopod stabs at the door activator to resume the chase...

Gramic bolts across the street in an attempt to avoid further contact with K'liKit, not waiting for a break in traffic. A shrill blast from a hovercycle horn is soon drowned out by the roaring fans as it clips the bolting bug. Gramic spins around, drops and rolls, and regains his footing to make it the rest of the way across the street. Meanwhile the cyclist loses control from the hit and spins out (rotating to the left), getting thrown near the holographic shop as the bike comes to a halt by a monorail support column.

The hovercar roars to life, with the human passenger poking a rifle barrel out the window chattering away --- Guenther takes a burst for 16 points of damage (halved by the skeinsuit to 8). The skimmer pulls out into traffic and narrowly misses an oncoming transport, rounding the corner and proceeding underneath the overhead monorail track.

OOC --- you are operatives under Pan Galactic, not Star Law. Either way, the vruskan cyclist is unconcious (not seriously wounded or anything, just knocked out) and won't be putting up a fight if you take his sled...

K'liKit performs a brief eyeball-survey of the machine (a Streel-produced Hyondow LR-900V in candy red, with a vruskan operator package), it appears intact and merely stalled after the spin out. The slide-key will need to be recovered from the rider to restart it, unless you wish to hotwire it instead. Time would be on your side if you were to recover the key though.

"K'LiKit, who has the data cube? You follow the hovercar and I'll follow Gremaic?" (OCC: was it K'LikIt or I or both who saw something get thrown into the car?)

"All/Headquarter -- civilian down at <here>, looks like he's ok, but send a bus just in case. one suspect down, one Vrusk heading west on <street>, two humans heading north on <street> in a <description> hovercar, license number <XYZ>. We have any local vehicles handy? What's everyone's 20?"

K'liKit thought he saw Gramic toss something into the skimmer before he attempted to grapple. He didn't get a clear view, just through his peripheral vision as he rounded the corner.

Geunther didn't see anything as he stopped short of the zoo corner to take cover and fire at Geiger (he still has half a clip remaining after gunning down the baddie).

Traffic is light but sporadic. PGC skimmer is in auto-transit. Gloob, havingheard the auto-transit, ditches the rental clerk and heads for the door to access his rental cycle parked below and announces his actions over the chronocom.

The nearest door to Woot is the corridor door leading out of the security building. Also, the north door leads outside...which is his best bet if someone wants to grab Gloob's rental ground cycle inthe garage below.

Guenther has a clean shot at the fleeing skimmer, although he sees K'liKit running towards his line of fire as he makes his way to the hovercycle...there will be a penalty (-10) to avoid him as you shoot at the skimmer. Your choice, take the shot or take off after Gramic, either is applicable.

Woot needs to declare a route out of the transportation building. Geunther is taking chase after Gramic (will he stop and check for traffic or simply bolt across the street to keep up?), KliKit is comandeering of the hovercycle. NPCing for Gloob, who is chasing after the yaz leader who darted out the east door.

Geunther bolts to the edge of the street, runnign along the gutter looking for a break in traffic. Sadly a large ground transport lumbers by and he is unable to cross the street right away (will be able to safely do so next round). Gramic bolts into the monorail terminal andis seen ascending the escalator beyond the plexiglass windows.

KliKit finds the slide key from the fallen vrusk rider and hops onto the stalled hovercycle. He slides the key and gets a half-effort response from the right rear hoverfan as it attempts to sputter to life. The other two fire up immediately, but the third one is coughing as it tries to clear its throat. Finally a cloud of dust, dirt, and grass clippings erupts as it suddenly roars to life. The bike rises up to its full 30cm hover height and is ready for take off.

Woot bolts for the double doors.

Gloob opens the west security building door and spots the yaz leader running through the apartment tower lobby, heading for the northeast door. He lumbers off after him, but the yaz is slightly faster. As he takes chase he gets a clear shot at the monkey and squeezes off a blast from his laser pistol. Like the sonic stunner he'd been wielding all this time before, he hits. Unlike the sonic stunner he'd been wielding all this time, the shot takes an effect in the form of 21 points of damage! The yaz curses, staggers, and reaches for something on his belt with one hand and fires over his shoulder with the other, missing Gloob by quite a distance.

The skimmer takes off north, and brake lights illuminate as it nears the corner. Current map and positions, call your moves (everyone may move their maximum amount now, the hovercycle can accelerate by up to 20 squares, but will overtake the skimmer and be at an unsafe cornering speed if you do so (safe cornering speed is 40m/turn, or 8 squares...the corner is just off the map three squares in front of the skimmer).
