I've long wanted to shake things up by adding some cosmic horror alien creatures to the setting. Not necessarily the big octo-faced guy, but beings like that would be an interesting way to add a whole new element to the creatures/races. Cults groups may actually be worshiping beings with the ability to influence the world/setting (either through guiding other followers or hyper advanced technology or "magical powers"). The setting could decend into a X-Files meets Dead Space kind of thing pretty easily by doing this though. However, introducing this kind of thing slowly may be a lot of fun and a great way to add some deep mystery. It wouldn't have to be everywhere in the setting, but enough instances where authorities would have taken notice and the  heroes would have discovered the odd clue that doesn't seem to make sense.

I think the Xenomorph has been over used, ever since Giger created it every one has tried to emulate it in some way over the years. Plus there has been a never ending Aliens vs Predator or even the Starship Troopers Aracnids. The Thing has a far greater potenial for horror.

But let's get even more creative, how about adding in the horror that gives gamers headaches. The Creeper. Not the one from Jeepers Creepers but I mean the one that sneaks up on you and blows it's self up with a quiet hisssss.
creeper

How would these things multiple when they blow themselves up as an attack? Do they spread spores after the explosion making more of them? The real terror is can you survive their attack, and even if you do how do you survive a swarm of them.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.
