I'm combing through all canon and non canon sources for all things New Pale and discovered this:

[SFman21/quote] Moonclam- a gastropod, native to Pale, the moonclam has a camouflage shell making it difficult to see in the mineral seas. Pearls and the inner shell of the moonclam are striking, a result of the minerals found in the seas of Pale. Attempts have been made to transplant these animals, and while they survive in some environments, the pearls and mother of pearl produced is not of the same caliber. Price: pearl 5-10 Cr, mother of pearl inlay 2-5 Cr per square cn; animal- 1,700 Cr. [/quote]

The phrase"attempts have been made to transplant" suggests the first obvious candidate is New Pale so I'm going with that.

I'm surprised that the value of the animal is 1,700 Cr
That seems like a lot but perhaps not when you compare it to a tuna or sword fish
For comparison the geoduck clam is currently $15/pound pricing out at $15-45 each

So I'm thinking that means the moon clam must be several kilo perhaps many many kilos

After playing with real world prices for a 700 lb. tuna and 100 lb. sword fish my thoughts are moonclams run 100 lbs or 45 kilos and cost 37-40Cr per kilo but these will be Pale prices.

New Pale Moonclams can price out at 20-25 Cr and run a little smaller say 40 kg. I suppose we have to dumb down the price of the pearls and the mother of pearl inlay as well.

So how many pearls found inside? 2d10?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I'll have to look that one up. I think I missed it.
