Here is the collected info so far on pre-Dramune Run Garlus (with a few edits/additions):

STR/STA - 50/45
DEX/RS  - 50/50
INT/LOG - 60/50
PER/LDR - 45/45

pf:5 to 19 - Garlus is born in the city of Moltin (later renamed SynthTown when SynthCorp is founded there) on Inner Reach prior to the Sathar War. He is a pre-teen when the first Dramune Civil War breaks out, and having witnessed the atrocities of war (along with having witnessed & survived the Sathar War as a toddler) he yearns to join Inner Reach's militia some day. Being a "foreigner" in a predominant dralasite population, he was quick adapting to & accepting dral customs while viewing them as mutually beneficial comrades...to the point wher ehe has a preference to them as friends over fellow humans.

fy:20 - Garlus enlists into Inner Reach's planetary militia, graduating basic training and becoming a combat medic in their ground unit with the following skills: Projectile Weapons(1), Melee Weapons(1), Medic(1)

fy:24 - Garlus enrolls into the militia's technical training and acquires Technician(1) and Computer(1). He is a lv-2 medic by now as well.

fy:27 to 30 - Garlus is accepted into the militia's fleet academy and he learns piloting at lv:1 (along with boosting his existing PR skills) and cuts his teeth in their star fighter squadron, eventually earning a co-pilot gig aboard one of their militia assault scouts by fy:30 (and acquiring pilot lv-2 in that time frame).

fy:31 - (ten years prior to acquiring the Gullwind/30 prior to Dramune Run) Garlus musters out and acquires a second hand PGC-291M cargo courier to become a full fledged independent spacer. By now he is lv-3 in both projectile weapons and medic skills.

fy:31-36 - Garlus enjoys half a decade of spacing, hiring various crew to assist him in this endeavor.

fy:36 - Garlus re-enlists into the militia after war breaks out for the second time between Inner & Outer Reach. He is pilot(3) by the war's end, at which point the milita grants him a discharge so he can get back to spacing.

fy:36 to 41 - Garlus has enjoyed a decade of prosperous spacing and uses his share of profits earned as a down payment on a brand new Pacific class freighter he dubs "Gullwind". He earns pilot(4) and engineering(1) during this time frame.

fy:49 - Corrupted by greed, Garlus enters into a contract with MalCo Enterprises in Outer Reach where his profits are exponentially greater as his conscience takes a back seat. The next 12 years are spent developing a reputation for being reliable and no questions asked, and he gains pilot(5) shortly afterwards.

fy:56 - Garlus experiences occasional dizzy spells and brief periods of weakness but ignores the effects as they tend to pass quickly. He is lv-2 in engineering by now and has ramped up his computer skills to level 4.

fy:59 - Garlus is diagnosed with cancer that has been slowly eating away at his innards for the past six years, and it has taken its toll...the effects are irreversible and he will die within the next few years...sooner without treatment. He continues spacing with his crew and the Gullwind, living life to its fullest. Garlus also learns of a bastard son he had sired and his conscience starts to return...he begins donating funds for the grown son's adult schooling. He has learned astrogation by now along with boosting engineering to lv-3, making his skills as listed in Dramune Run by this time.

fy:60 - Garlus is experiencing noticeable losses in his physique as his muscles and motor skills are diminishing, he has been losing points in STR/STA and DEX/RS at a rate of 1 point in each per week. He soldiers on, having discovered a plot by the Mathar involving Inner Reach's symbol coupled with an ilicit narcotic trade

fy:61 - the events of Dramune Run unfold.

After mustering out of Inner Reach's Planetary Militia, Garlus was quick to acquire a small cargo transport to cut his teeth as a spacer. A heavily used and well serviced Pan Galactic 291M model cargo courier was on the market and he was able to get a fair deal on the ship, which he began to retrofit immediately to his own needs. The basic ship received skin sensors under the hull plating, a rather expensive endeavor for an already-built vessel...but Garlus' paranoia couldn't be ignored. To that end he added some security software to the mainframe computer. A white noise broadcaster was added later on to block communications of would be attackers. The final modification was to the engineering deck bunk...the bunk could be folded up (triggered by the computer terminal at the diagnostic center) to reveal a 2mx1mx1m secret compartment underneath, just in case Garlus came across something he didn't want to be found during a routine cargo inspection.

Perhaps Garlus needs a phobia (aside from his paranoia anyways), seeing as he didn't have any 'bots onthe Gullwind let alone a robot management program in the computer...how about we make him anti-robot? This would create some early conflict with the Malthar (who is very pro-robot).

Interesting.

Is this a phobia or a sympathy for the Silver Death Cult.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

You know what would be really cool? If we had a fan magazine and we published this.

Maybe not so much a phobia but a general distrust. Han Solo wasn't keen on 'droids in the original Solo trilogy, although he did have one in one of the books it was out of reluctance more than anything. It made for an interesting side-plot in the novel, more so as the droid began proving itself useful.

Yeah, a fanzine...

i think there is some room for Garlus with a phobia for robots to be approached by the Silver Death cult, not that he would jump in bed with them but some one in that cadre might think Garlus was a good prospect to approach.

Also doesn't the Gullwind have a robotic corgo arm? probably as far as Garlus would want to go with robotics.

Not robotic but remotely controlled, there are two locations it can be operated from. It can also be coputer operated by triggering the function at either station.
