Ok, ok, ok..

You know me always trying to generate content for the magazine

And this is more or less a rip off of someone else's idea:

This is a collaboration thread (I'll compile and submit the list to the magazine)

10 Things on Clarion STation:

10 Station perosnalities

10 travellers

10 Rumors and whispers

10 sites and sounds (events?)

10 cargoes ready to tranship (self sealing stem bolts need not apply!)

Item "found" on Clarion station: 2d10 kilo of TD-19 explosive with a cheap Oni Sends detonator found in air vent or behind an access panel. It's thickly covered in dust and possibly has been in this spot 10 or more years if one has to guess. Oni Sends is a company making cheap knock off that often have defects.

"The Apothecary": a small shop run by a small wisened gnome of a man, Bartholomew Bigelow the "Apothecary to the Stars" has a little shop on Clarion station. If anyone tries to question the "to the Stars" appellation he just smiles. He also trades in rumor and some say has connections to CFM.

He specializes in teas and gum. But his teas and gum are formulated for specific biologies or species so a tea sold to a specific species is of no effect on another. Note gum is not suitable for all species (dralasites and vrusk) not appreciated by yazirians so it's almost exclusively a human product.

Pain Ease gum or tea formulated for individual species floods the users system with pain killing compounds and triggers the release of endorphins or endorphin like compounds from the user's brain as their specific biology. 1 cup Tea works for 5 hours or one stick of gum for 1 hour (5/pack) will nullify pain penalty and limitation of one rate of fire for 1/2 STA. Adequate self administered anesthetic substitute.
Cost 2 Cr. Per 1 tea bag or pack of gum

Elast-A-Balm
For dralasites but some humans claim it's great as a hair gel. Elast-A-Balm comes in a small pocket sized jar and will last one GST week of continual use. It cuts the dralasties limb formation time in half and artificially increases the dralasite's DEX score ONLY for puposes of computing number of limbs he can generate (max score= 100). If used as hair gel it imparts a greasy look but hair won't move except extreme circumstances. Yazirians dislike the smell -5% for NPC reactions to a user of this product.

Cost: 10 Cr

Blood Infused Fortified Targ Jerky
No body but Yazirians likes the taste. If a yazirian injests this one hour latter he will have a +5% to battle rage attempts and this effect will last 5 hours. Comes in small resealable pouches 5 doses to a pouch.
Cost: 20 Cr./ Pouch

Vrusk Alert Kzz Grubs
The Kzz grubs are traditional vruskan medical practice. The grubs we're grown and fed certain compounds which were stored in their bodies. When the grub was injested by a vrusk the medical properties of those compounds we're experienced by the injestee. This was a very old and traditional practice. A trade house on __________(I'll supply the colony name latter) has revived this practice marketing The Vrusk Alert compounds which boost a vrusk ability to pay attention conferring a +5% bonus to both INT and Comprehension ability. They take effect within 10 minutes of ingestion and last for 5 hours. Originally the grubs had to be kept alive but the Vrusk Pharmicopia trade house developed a secret method of drying the grubs and retaining the effecacy of the drug/ compounds this is their flagship product.

Cost: 10 Cr/ dried grub.

There are various herbal teas that the Apothecary makes for various ailments or compaints.
Void Jump Tea is said to have a calming effect on the system for those who experience nasea and distress during void jumps. Void Jump Tea is 2Cr/tea bag and special teas are made to order 3 Cr /does

Zero G tea Brewer and tumbler: 20 Cr (with Royal Marine crest and motto emblazoned on side: 25Cr).

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Note: anyone playing a practical joke on a sleeping yazirian by putting Elas-A-Balm in his mane runs the risk of bodily harm. The smell so offends a yazirian that they are 25% likely to wake up when the joker comes near them.

Edit: Warning: Pain Ease Gum is know to the Government of Gran Quivera to be habit forming.

10 Things on Clarion Station

10 Rumors to Ruminate

1.       1. The PGC Exploration Service is planning an expedition to probe beyond the White Light Nebula and are looking for qualified candidates to staff the mission.

2.      2. There is something living in the air vents, haven’t you ever noticed the smell that comes from the vents?

3.      3.  A Land Fleet dralasite heavy gunner sparred with him and knocked him out cold with one punch and left him lying flat on his back in the middle of his dojo.

4.      4.  Warning: Pain Ease Gum is know to the Government of Gran Quivera to be habit forming.

5.       Place Holder

10 Henchmen for Hire

1.       1. "Counselor" Byron Pascal of Cassidine
Studied Pschology at Triad Community College and worked for a time as a counselor on Triad before suddenly leaving. He's landed on Clarion station but has been unable to find work as a counselor so works as a technician in the life support plant on the station. He's not exessively brave and he's not happy with his job but has no money so he's stuck on Clarion station for the time being.

Bio-Social PSA: Psych-social 2 Environmental 1, Technician 1
There may be something to why he left Cassidine system as he's very tight lipped about it.

2.     2.  Jim “Jitsu”

His birth name is James Fairchild and previously he’s claimed distant relations to the Fairchilds of Clarion but his street name on Gran Quivera was Jimmy Fairplay. Jim Jitsu has had a checkered past as a scammer/swindler but learned some basic martial arts  while in jail and suddenly has recreated himself as Jim Jitsu master martial artist. He teaches a basic self-defense classes and holds himself out as a martial arts trainer.

He's cocky with a healthy dose of swagger. He's usually seen in upscale workout clothes (the kind that you don’t really work out in lest you soil them with sweat) or a "combat gi" which is basically a style of skien suit popularlized in action/martial arts extravaganza holovids that is now associated with martial arts in the popular culture of the Frontier. it includes a gi over the suit that has short pant legs and sleeves to show off the body armor side of the outfit. In other words its a fancy civilian skien suit that screams "I know kung fu, konichiwa, sushi and other Japanese words so you better watch out!"

He talks a grand game of self-defense holovids being in the works and a franchise of Jim Jitsu dojo's across the Frontier. He barely stays ahead of his rent and sleeps in the office of his Dojo and showers in the locker room. The holo-vids he’s produced were self-published affairs. Because he dojo is not making him rich over night he is always on the lookout for some new opportunity. His current catch phrase is, “I’m Jim Jitsu, martial arts master, perhaps you've heard of me?” He usually accompanies this phrase with some stylized karate chops with his hands.

Tech PSA: Technician 1, Computers 1, Martial Arts 1

Combat Gi or High end work out clothes, Federanium medallion with Yin-yang symbol on it.

3.      3.  Place holder

10 Businesses to Browse

1.      1.  Currency Exchange.  Yes we have the standard credit but then there is the CFM and their currency and I'm sure some territories and worlds love the freedom of keeping their own currencies.

2.       2. Holotheatre.  Sized to fit the station population so that the peak hour shows maximize the seating. Plays local Clarion shows and the current blockbusters from StarPlay.

3.      3.  Human and Yazirian bath and grooming salon.  This is a simple spa and barber shop/salon.  Yazirians like a good traditional grooming and humans like their hair cut/done regularly.  This is one racial crossover that bonds humans and yazirians as friends.

4.     4.  Dralasite steam bath.  Only sized to three or four dralasites at a time but dralasites like the social interaction of a proper steam bath and the standard accommodation bathrooms are single occupancy affairs.  It was mentioned elsewhere that living accommodations on stations are easily reconfigured for each race.  This is true of the bathrooms as well and the bathing facilities in these accommodations do convert from showers to steam rooms for dralasites but they only fit one dralasite at a time and the dralasite must stand or straddle a stool.  The purpose being to get clean and back to other life activities. The communal steam bath has the customary lounging bowls for a good long soak and conversation.

5.      5.  Exercise facility.  Treadmills, weights, etc.  Possibly there is another area in lower G to no G where simulated swimming/gliding can happen by climbing into a changer that jets water/air past you to create a current.  This chamber is not necessarily recommended for the claustrophobic.

6.      6.  Tanning Salon.  Astronauts today don't seem to do this to get healthy UV exposure, but then they are on a space station that has little to no radiation protection compared to what SF may consider standard requirement.  They actually get over exposed to radiation.  So, assuming that SF standards of stellar radiation protection for a space station are pretty good, the occupants may suffer from lack of UV exposure that planet side beings get naturally.  Or, maybe this is just built into the modern SF lighting systems and this is a non-issue.

7.     7.  Bank with safe deposit boxes.  I suggest this because there is always the need for a good plot hook where a jewel or hi-tech device are passing through the station and the owner needs a more secure place to drop the item so that they can stop being their own security guard for a while and relax now that they are almost done carrying their little treasure to the new world.

8.     8.  Sanctuary.  This could be a small chapel church with a live-in priest or some other calm off limits room where a soul can seek a moment or two of silence and seclusion.  There is no fee to get in and it is intended that only one use the room at a time.  I like the idea of a live-in religious being so that the location can actually serve as a full sanctuary where the troubled being can hide from universe like Notre Dam.

9.      9.  Holoarcade.  Not the holodeck from Star Trek.  Rather, the holographic version of the old 80's video arcade.  Think rows of arcade machines that project a holoscreen within the confines of the machines booth.  Just chop an arcade machine down to the height of the controls replacing the screen with a holodisplay showing what the player is seeing.  Then put a pad or pads around the spectator holodisplay for the players to stand on while a holoscreen is projected around them.  The result is the player steps on the pad and appears to himself and others like the avatar of the game.  The player then sees the environment of the game around him.  The others that are spectators would see what the player sees in the smaller holodisplay in front of the player.  This holodisplay is also what advertises the game and attracts players.  A great pass time for beings cooped up on a station and not able to get out and enjoy the world below them.

10.  10. The Apothecary": a small shop run by a small wisened gnome of a man, Bartholomew Bigelow the "Apothecary to the Stars" has a little shop on Clarion station. 10 Services to See

1.       1. Customs and Immigration Section.  There would likely not be free access to walk from a ship to a shuttle or even the station proper.  Everybeing still gets to wait in line to have their carry-on and body searched.  They must show their ID and register their presence.  Their luggage must be searched and they must comply to all customs laws and duty fees.  Some section of the station must be set apart for this function.

2.      2.  Weapons Check. With the restrictive weapons laws on Clarion anyone arriving on station via a commercial passenger berth whether on a freighter or passenger liner may immediately stop by Weapons Check and “coat check” their questionable weapons under a “No Questions” asked policy. They will be free to take their weapons when they disembark from the station.

Business:
Bud & Yo's Dive Shop: catering to tourist and orbital skydiving enthusiasts. Bud, a dralasite, and Yo, a yazirian, are business partners. They carry a continual banter. insulting each but it doesn't take vrusk comprehension to see they have history and a deep friendship going back to their tour in the Royal Marines 20 years ago. They have a couple of shuttles (McCameron class and a Romulus class both in FE). Bud was a pilot and Yo a rocket gunner.

Edit: i suppose i need to figure a cost for orbital skydiving. No doubt this includes the cost of fuel for getting a shuttle full of skydivers and equipment back to the station. As well as overhead.

Perhaps Clarion station offers special deals for veterans on renting space on the station?

Edit2: i do believe we'll move Sanctuary over to services to let this be the 10th business

3. Jinga Arackaback: A Native of Scree Fron yazirian parajumper. she claims to have done rescue para-jumping but the details are thin. She came to Clarion to expand her repertoire by taking training at Bud & Yo's diveshop for orbital skydiving. Tech PSA: Technician 2, Environmental 1, Beam 1

In truth she's worked as an upper story thief gliding in, using her tech skills to defeat security and stealth subskills to steal. She was betrayed by her employer on her last job on Gran Quivera and not paid. Suspecting he might have her killed she escaped to Clarion and is virtually destitute. Thus she is looking for almost any source of income.

4. Mitch O'Donnel, former sherrif from Morgaine's world tried his hand at prospecting and mining in the Planaron belt but the ship he signed onto experienced catastrophic holing by a micro-meteor that took out the main computer and scrambled the drive program which let the atomic drives to over load and self destruct. he was lucky to get out with his life and be rescued by the Royal Marines. He's looking for work doing anything to rebuild his fortunes.

Beings to Hire
Being a youngling on Clarion Station is not the most thrilling thing in the Frontier. School and sleep takes up only so much time and every other form of entertainment costs credits, especially hitting the arcade to play "Rescue at Laco" (the four being version) will cost about 20 credits for a good day many of the "teen age and tween age" beings on Clarion Station have formed an informal "guide service" for new arrivals to Clarion Station. The guides wait by the service elevators and when they spot a "meteor" (thier word for a being who seems to be wandering lost in space) they will approach them and offer to guide them to where they need to go. Usually a member of the same race as the meteor so proper ettiquite is followed. Carrying of bags and other minor serivces are also offered. They do not ask for credits but many a meteor who did not tip has found their stay on Clarion Station filled with little annoyances they could have avoided. The guides do not do anything illegal and will never steal from a meteor but unleashing the Dralasite Prank Guide Book is another way to entertain themselves.

Missing Sonic Sword. Many witnesses saw a sword fight between an old guy in flowing robes and another in a battlesuit. The old guy lost but no body was found only his robes with no DNA on them at all. The other guy vanished without a trace. However the witnesses did confirm that the Sonic Sword the old guy used did not vanish but was not there when the Clarion Royal Marines arrived. A reward is being offered for its location.

7. Halfred "Red" Holiday former law enforcement on Minotaur. in a shoot out a stray bullet killed a child. Shortly thereafter he resigned. He's been compensating with alcohol during down time to try to forget, he hesitates 2pt penalty to IM, and must make a PER check to actually engage in combat (once he engages in combat habit will take over and no further PER checks). PSA Military: Porjectile 1, Martial arts 1, Computer 1

Can be treated by someone with Psych-social skill but isn't ready as he blames himself. Treatment should not be one dice roll but should take months of councilling. Probably not a good NPC for a game where a player who has seen or experienced real PTSD

10. Ajax's workshop

Located near the docking bays is the workshop of Actaeon "Ajax" Jax (human male from Minotaur originally). He is the best mechanic and star ship engineer on Clarion station. Rumor has it he can replicate or rebuild anything with little more than duct tape and bailing wire. The Royal Marines tried repeatedly to get him to return to the militia service but he's a law unto himself. He's worked out a deal with the administration of Clarion station to assist with damage control and repair of government vessels (militia) and his workshop rent is comped. he wont do maintenance work but will consult and handle big problems. He's set for money and spends his time with what interests him often for nominal fees and he picks and chooses which militia ship he'll repair based on which ship captain he likes or doesn't like as the case may be.

@ rat-t not sure if your 3 posts were meant to be serious, and the younglings was a faceless group
so not snubbing your offerings out of spite.

Looking to craft another spacer NPC (not astrogator) but potentially a pirate in hiding got away during a battle between his ship and an assault scout in the Planaron belt on a digger shuttle (most likely a pilot) and managed to make it to Clarion. doesn't think the RM is on to him and hopes his past as a pirate is as dead as the rest of his former ship mates but you never know.

and for the parties lacking a medic an NPC medic should round out the Henchmen for Hire. other than doing full stat blocks.

This will round out the list of rogues looking for work should the PCs list positions available with their ship.

could still do 10 Prominent People on Clarion Station- shadow had some suggestions.

Henchmen to hire:

9. "Toby" Tobias Rennar. 16 year old human who has run with the "youngling" croud on Clarion station. Excelled in tech school before being orphaned when his father died tragically in an accident on Clarion station. It seems young Toby fell through the cracks and has gotten by husselling tourist as a youngling guide (his small stature let him pass for an younger boy). He has a high PER score and one level 1 technological PSA skill (whaterever skill the PCs are looking for).

He witnessed a crime and is figuring he should get off Clarion station for his health.

10. Dr. S'p'ck vrusk medical specist.
Bio-social PSA. Skills: Medical 2, environmental1.
Use to do medical research on [insert name of vrusk colony] but was let go/ opted to leave after a hostile take over. Probably has some cutting edge medical equipment in addition to a std. Med kit from his days of medical research. Has been drifting looking for something new. He has been a little somber and depressed over the dismantling of his trade house

Going over the old material I have found that not only Zebs but KH and The Darkside of the Moon call it Gollywog and Clarion is not mentioned. Anyone know the story behind this?
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Somewhere along the way I missed counted and Im short 2 Henchmen

9. Hogar Shen (yazirian, male)
Clan less sell sword, bodyguard and enforcer
Hogar grew up on Gran Quivera and is clan less. He's bounced around the Frontier from Truane's Star to Theseus usually avoiding yazirian, vrusk and dralasite colonies. He actually understands human culture and customs quite well (Special ability mimics vrusk comprehension but only with humans- 30%). He can the tells in humans when they are about to act (like a tense negotiation and someone is about to draw a a weapon) and can re roll his initiative against human opponents with a successful INT check. His work experience is a hodge podge of security, mercenary and body guard work.

PSA Military. Skills Melee 2 Beam 1 Thrown 1

10. Jake Speedo "Speed"
Pilot
PSA: Tech. Skills Technician 6 Computers 2 Star ship pilot 1
Jake Speedo, Speed to his friends, loves to fly. Jetcopters, air cars, shuttles, you name it he's good with them and he loves to go fast. His love of speed has resulted in some nasty hover car accidents and his body bears scars in testimony to them including a nasty looking one running up his neck. In some ways he's the quintessential fighter jock but has never served in any military. He was recently fired by Trans Travel for showboating with one of their shuttles and is looking for work.

Note: if using Spacer Skills Revisited or A Skilled Frontier fan rules dumb down the technician skill or change it to Piloting air vehicles.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Who wrote/worked on those documents? Is there one person who's name turns up repeatedly? It may be that he came up with the idea, liked it and kept pushing it.

Kind of like me and certain things in the setting.

Alrighty then.

I've pulled the information here into one document with randomizable list of 10 matching the gmaes d10 mechanic for obvious reason.

reworked several of the PCs performing species change operations on two of them to make them dralasites. out of 10 NPC henchmen 2 are vrusk, 2 are yazirians, 2 are dralasites and 4 are human.

reworked the Henchmen profiles to follow this format:

Name (species, and gender)
Resume: what and where they have been doing for work-for PC consideration
PSA & Skills- again for PC consideration
Ability scores, IM & PS scores (mostly for referee consideration)
Background notes- for referee to reveal as needed.
Equipment- only listed sometimes particularly if the character has something unusual. but all are assumed to have tool kits for skill use
