The Mechanon Angle

If the Mechanons are responsible for bringing down the Hepplewhite Dream and the method of bringing it down is a bomb then logically a mechanon placed the bomb on board.

However, while I'm sure security is considerably more lax at Frontier star ports than current Earth based launch facilities; I sure a mechanon loitering around a shuttle loading area would be noticed.

So how did they place the bomb? I think the answer is simple: they hacked Std. UPF robots and can subvert them to their purpose at any time. Yes it's 50 shades of the New BSG but I'm convinced that the mechanons were included in Zebs Guide at least if not from the Volturnus campaign because of the popularity of the old BSG (mechanon- glowing crystals on top of head/ Cylon glowing eye).

So the first moves in the Revolt are hacking and secretly subverting control of all UPF robots in the corporate enclaves and Star port.

Second move and probably a mistake by one mechanon was ordering the bombing of the Hepplewhite Dream knowing that it was carrying samples of slime bugs off planet which is a violation of treaty from the mechanon point of view (see my mechanon revolt article FE #19). Or it was ordered from top and the mechanons figured that no one would discover they did it.

3. Move happens short (like minutes or one hour) after PCs discover that mechanons bomb the ship through a robot proxy and that all robots on Volturnus are under their thumb. PCs must survive attack at Star port and travel to Volkos.

Game Transitions to seige of Volkos (modeled on Boxer Rebellion) PCs participate and possible special missions.

All coms and radios are being listened to computer networks designed to net work via chronocom are all susceptible to mechanon hacking. Vehicles with computer links are bad news as well.

So when it's determined that it was a bomb on board and security footage is reviewed to see who did it a curious thing will turn up. The cargo loading robot will carry a small package up onto the hull of the ship and leave/attach it near the engine pod and rocket engine. This will lead to robot and beginnings of mechanon connection.

At this point the Dral in the suit steps in as a high ranking CDC exec and hires the PCs as CDC Security muscle with a signing bonus. Data is being analyzed and it appears that the recent attack on the Bio-gen labs by 10 hvy duty construction bots may be a harbinger of things to come. With X number of people in the corporate enclaves and Y number of robots there could be a blood bath if the Mechanon have hacked all the UPF robots.

Chance for PC with robotics skill to make some skill checks. Or if no roboticist then PCs can talk to "the  Prime Mechanon" though the subdued cargo loading robot.

There has been com interference of late and a roboticist PC could discover that the cargo robot and presumably all other UPF originating robots are receiving this signal from the mechanon. It's the means by which the mechanons are hacking and controlling the bots but also imbedded in the signal is a count down timer to when war is total on all biologicals.

This is a good idea.

Volturnus Governor is appointed by the UPF players might seek an audience to relay their fears about the hacked robots.

At the governor's mansion they are required to check weapons at the door but screening for weapons is simply the Butler bot asking the player to rack their obvious weapon at the coat/weapons closet.

During interview with the governor the Buttler bot is listening in and reporting to the mechanons. Having the players layout enough of the mechanon plan will trigger an order from the controlling mechanon to attack. All other robots in the governor's pallace will attack. Level 1 maintenance robot will attack the governor's daughter. Kitchen bot, and driver bot will begin moving to engage the PCs and the governor. Governor will have  a pistol in his drawl and another two weapons in his closet in the master bedroom. The Butler bot will have locked the coat/weapons closet. level 2 electronic lock.

Meanwhile all the other robots at the corporate enclaves will have also attacked.
Mechanons are "boiling" out of their mounds distantly (comput the time it will take for them to reach variout locaiton on the map (Volkos, the outpost & town that featured in SFAD1, and the corporate enclaves.
There is a space station in orbit at this time as per a KHs scenario from either polyhedron or dragon, thus the UPF / corporate personnel can get satellite data on the mechanon army moving on Volkos and the star por/corporate enclaves.

Robots on the space station are also hacked by the mechanons. additionally they will have scrambled some mechanon fighters to engage targets in orbit.

No space fleet assets currently in system.

The Governor will suggests that they need to evact the star port and corporate enclaves for the  safety of the walls of Volkos. Governor might try to engage/recruit the PCs to get him and his daughter to Volkos.
this could be the next leg of the adventure. road run. perhaps players scrounge the best vehicles they can to get them to Volkos and every hour the GM rollf for encounters: could be rogue UPF robots, mechanons witth entourage of mechanon robots, a group of Ul mor riders, a small team of corporate personnel (random megacorp), Injured volturnus nativs, injured UPF personnel.
