i am suffering through too much data. I have downloaded everything from everywhere and find myself in need of a compendium of creatures, aliens, monsters, etc.

Has this ever been done? I also have used several ideas and random creatures from the SPACE OPERA martigan Belt scenario. I will plod through and make one for myself, but wanted to know if there is one existing already.

I've considered doing one for Star Frontiers, compiling all the creatures from the rules, adventures, and magazines into one big compendium and the publishing it as a Frontier Explorer Presents special issue.  I've just not had the time.

That was also the intention of this page on the Star Frontiers Network wiki ( http://starfrontiers.info/wiki/index.php/Creature_Compendium) but again, no one has ever really added to it.

Malcadon's wiki has some here: http://starfrontiers.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Flora_and_Fauna_Guide

In the the Volturnus revisited project I had messed around with the idea of not just a unified compendium of volturnus creatures, which in itself is sorely needed since they are spread over 3 modules and one rule book, but also tinker with some of the wonkier monsters like the roller and the lava monster.

I also had the idea of doing some volturnus evolutionary tree diagrams showing the evolutionary relationships between the volturnus creatures.

Since you brought it up perhaps it may be time for "Jurak Hangna Presents: The Creature Compendium" under a FE or SFman label. Of course the compenium will be out of date by the next issue of FE but it would be nice to have.

We'd have to scour all moduels, rule books, official and fan magazines. Assemble and alphabetize the creatures, edit copy and assemble artwork- some will need fresh scans of the old artwork and some will need new sketches. I also think that we should challenge the community to send in some new never before seen creatures as well.

Its a big project.

It might easier to assemble it in pieces: A compendium of Volturnus Creatures, a Compendium of Sathar creatures (and robots), and so on. though I suppose if you have already done the volturnus and sathar creatures the rest dont really represent all that much more.

EDIT: there are also the 10 weaponized creatures at the back of the Starmist module- what is listed there are the sathar re-engineered creatures but they are all based on "harmless creatures found throughout the Frontier". we would need to write up the harmless ones.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I appreciate the quick comments!  Great ideas. I am a collector of info and I will take that role if that ok.. my email listed is admiral.wells@gmail.com.  Currently I have everything for space opera and star frontiers and of course the other assorted stuff. I will get a name and 'where found' for every creature I have and alphabetically listed. After that we can add others I don't have if that sounds ok to you all.  I dont have pdf editing software. I can help on all other aspects though.

My suggestions would be that we simply list 'native planet' and let the referee decide on when and where they may pop up. Also, Space Opera seems to be a dead and gone copyright. Is that correct? If so, is there a problem with this grooup ofcreatures from there being added in? What abt other sources?

This is going to be so much better than printing them all and using a marker to cross out unneeded areas and then using a big stapler! :)

I will have my alphabetical name list of all I know posted here within 2 days. After that we can has out all the ones I missed and such. By the way, way back when, we met a 'denebian hair and slime being'. anyone heard of this fearsome creature before?

Even if Space Opera is out of print someone still holds the copyright on it. we may be best off avoiding any tress pass there.

Admiral Wells, if you create a list it might be best to create it in the document section of the Compendium of Creatures project: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/1643
The document can be edited and up dated at need and it would become the master working list.

we're going to have to carefully comb:
1. the rule books
2. the modules
3. Dragon, Polyhedron, and Ares magazine archives
4. Star Frontiersman and Frontier Explorer magazines

Other considerations: there seems to be some work in the Compendium of creatures project already so we should check that for new unpublished material

We should decide on whether robots should be a part of this as well. I'm guessing yes since the point is to have all the possible opponents in one locaiton.

Finally, do we include sapient races that have been created by asundry fans and original designers like for instance: the zethra and the zuraquor? or should those go into a compendium of sapients?

Finally from there we can work up word documents like all the "A" creatures or all the "A-D" creatures (what ever the master list reveals as neccessary chunks of the list) and submit it to the web zine and then all artwork for those creatures can be added latter to that submission which will keep things organized. for the most part we can do the organization in the project and use the submission cue at FE to organize the documents in preparation for publication.

Have done so and made it through sf 1-9. left out robots but picked up everything else. This includes all things detailed, or some things mentioned just in passing. I will go back for the robots. If you do a disable rich text the list goes back to a real list (notepad).  Doesn't look like much yet! perhaps just a word doc as a file attachment?

I guess someone could volunteer on searching the rules books for creatures if they really wanted to. Laughing

I went back and picked up robots and all possible adversaries. It will be up to a future editor as to the possibility that they will be found in a 'current' encounter.  So far sf 1-9 complete and fe  3. i will do more tonite.

I was planning on doing a creature compilation for SF after I finish up the magazine remastering. It was a bigger project than I thought and life has gotten in the way lately.

Admiralwells, we can connect and work on it together and that should save time.

updated further at http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/1643  through sf 12. very nice compendium at end of sf 12 that listed summaries of all 12 previous issues. Once they are all there, need to alphabetize and combine multiple mentions of individual creatures, and then we can start the long process of copying and pasting all known info on each creature into one spot.
