Non standard or creative uses for common or oft overlooked equipment. Post below and no going over 101! I mean it or I will deploy a dralasite whoopie coushin.

1. Laser scalpel : found in the robcom kit and the med kit. Can be attuned to make cuts on a microscopic level. Non standard use (usually by dralasites) is to make a very small hole in a drinking vessel/ single beverage container thereby causing a slow leak that will produce a drip on the being attempting to drink his beverage. Also used by "McGuiver" style technitions across the frontier to produce a slow leak in large liquid holding containers for the purpose of being a timer that will tigger X when liquid reaches Y or simply to draw attention as in a diversion.

2. Plastiflesh: found in the med kit. Used to close wounds and sooth burns.
Non-standard use: sprayed over the mouth of a sleeping/unconscious Human or Yazarian as a prank to silence the person.  The victim will wake up to find her mouth "gone," panic, and hopefully run around in a commicall fassion for the enjoyment of nearby friends and co-conspirators.
Of course once the stuff is removed, more pleasure can be had when the victim finds out who performed the prank. Depending on how amusing she thought it was or wasn't.
Time flies when your having rum.

Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time.

3.  Emergency Beeper: Found in Zebulon's Guide.  Intended for use in rescue operations, but can also be used as a makeshift tracking device.  Simply activate it and drop it in someone's briefcase or bag of groceries.  Allows a perp to be tracked back to their hideout quicky and simply.

7. Acid Neutralizer - bottle of liquid to neutralize acids.
Non-standard Use: place on vehicles battery to sabotage it.

8. Bioscanner - device consists of a network of straps and electrodes connected to a readout gauge. When attached to a plant or animal, living or dead, it can determine what type of organism is being examined and whether it is edible or poisonous.
Non-standard Use: used to determine a list of programs and functions for a robot.
Required: electrodriver, electrosnips and breadboard circuits.
A. open bioscanner with electrodriver.
B. Bypass main breadboard circuit with 2 electrosnips.
C. Clip new breadboard circuit to other side of electrosnips. <new breadboard must have a diagnostic program.>
D. Activate bioscanner and connect to charging port of said robot.
E. Observe programs and functions on readout gauge.

Note: if you wish to alter programs and functions you must remove security lock and do it manuelly. This only allows you to observe.

9. Water Pack; used for hydration- non standard use is to dilute and neutralize acid- dilute any acid enough and it loses effectiveness- most doses of acid affecting a character are probably not that large and a standard water pack ought to be effective at neutralizing it.

Everyone needs water but acid neutralizer?

Time to go big. A hull size 20 space liner has a small accident and ends up on a planetary surface but is mostly intact. Instead of scrapping it a Dralasite comedian reworks it into a hotel/nightclub/casino/restaurant. Fun time adventures await especially on the airlock decompression pool slide ride and other converted attractions.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

11. Gyrojet ammo clip: non standard use- improvised incendiary device. Dismantile gyrojet ammo with a multi-tool for the rocket fuel and explosive payloads. Make a fuse with piece of cord or rope by impregnating it with rocket fuel. pack rocket fuel and explosive payloads with the fuse into a handy container and wrap tightly with ion bonding tape (tech kit) only leaving the fuse exposed. place device and light fuse with an everflame and run or get the vrusk in the party to play Nodwick and light the fuse while you are already under cover.

One clip does X ammount of damage or structural damage and creates a fire ball Y radius.

NOte: my smart phone refused to let me post this twice, makes one wonder why? or at least think about the book "1984" The design of this was taken from a sparkler bomb that a buddy of mine was fond of making when he was young and foolish. I adapted that to the setting in that gyrojet ammo has both rocket fuel and an explosive warhead.

The above is the quick and dirty version, but I'm sure that a trained technician or demolitions spec could McGuiver a remote detonator via a number of methods- the insulated wire in the tech kit could be used to deliver an electric charge.

Interesting, duct tape was used to repair the lunar rover on the Apollo 17 mission.

I had a roome make in college that had repair a couple of his cars with duct tape including re-attaching the bumper with tape

13. All weather blanket and plasti-bond from the techkit. can be used to make an inflated life raft.

An all weather blanket is incredibly useful:

14. solar still- I'm convinced, from fooling around with this method, that it is for situations of absolute desparation. Or to say it plainly: it works but not well and if prone to problems and not likely an answer for survival if you can do other things.

15. shelter (with rope)- many variations on this one. With two there is a method to survive in high heat.

 and its standard use.

call it 3-4 liter capacity

I think the vest material would out gas in a vacuum.  Most likely the vest would just pop at the seams.

Lets consider holoflares

Alpha Dawn wrote:

A holoflare is a small, solid, ball- shaped device. When lit, the flare rockets about 200 meters into the air and hovers for 10 minutes. The flare will illuminate an area 1km across with dim light.

What does it mean when it says "When lit" ? activated by lighting it with an everflame or simply pushing a button?

"rockets about 200m into the air and hovers 10 minutes" does it have a supply of rocket fuel? the ball shape is less than ideal for a rocket device and would likely result in it zipping around like a balloon rapidly expelling air. for a ball shaped device to perform as stated in AD it would need on board gyroscopic controlls that vent exhaust from numerous ports to maintain a controlled flight path and then hover which then suggests a mircro processor programmed to do this.

or is it an application of whatever tech allows the air car to fly or robots to hover in alternate movement mode?

its name is Holoflare so we can presume there is a holographic device incorporated into this but that its not that fancy in that it simply produces light that dimly illuminates 1km area.

We should speculate on how this device operates in order to determin how it might be modified for non standard usage.

21. holoflare: Early warning device. Un-insulated wire from the tech kit is used to make a trip wire that will activate the holoflare and warn of the approach of potential enemies (note: I'm assuming that the flare activates electronically or mechanically not by flame)

Would using an Exoskeleton as a supporting frame for heavy weapons akin to the M56 Smartgun from Aliens and/or to mount heavy "Ned Kelly"-styled armor plating would count as "non-standard use"?

I'd imagine that exoskeletons would be designed specifically for adjusting to non-standard uses, such as screw holes in strategic places and pinch clamps ready to attach other equipment. So yes, while it would be made specifically to adjust to non-standard uses, they would remain to be non-standard uses. Standard use would simply be lifting and increasing speed.

22. Hover chair: made from the kit bashed chassis of a robot with an alter movement mode ie hover with the seat of a chair mounted right on top of the parabattery. Just go slow to keep it stable.

Yes, because some times you need a floater disk and dont have one.
