I know that the module says one of the player characters should be vrusk but why? I just dont see why, anyone have some thoughts?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I think it is for the Comprehension ability for use with dealing with all the new societies.

I think any character with psych-social ability doubles as a vrusk comprehension ability

and OTOH you can just role play interactions or allow a LOG check to get around this. I would not fuss about whether there is one vrusk in the party or not.

Guess you were waiting for my answer being the Vrusk of the mission. Terl mentions it is probably the Comprehension ability which is needed in dealing with the all the new races. Jedion says psych-social skill can be used instead.

AD says:

Psycho-Social skill gives a character an advantage

when dealing with individuals or groups of intelligent

beings. The skill can be used when dealing with any

of the major races as well as any other intelligent

species the character encounters.

There are five Psycho-Social subskills: empathy,

persuasion, communication, hypnosis, and psychopathology.

Of these only the first three can really be used with new races. Empathy is figuring out their general intentions in limited terms, Persuation is getting them to do something and communication maybe should not be here but limits you to two word phrases.

Meanwhile with Comprehension you can figure out what they are doing and what they want you to do.

Take the first meeting with the Ul-mor. Which will get you further as they sit there on there lopers with weapons drawn Empathy-they seem to be apprehensive or Comprehension-they are not openly hostile and are waiting for us to open communication. They appear to be a tribal community and make decisions as a group.

Oh funny thing if you look at the pictures in the module, it appears there are no Vrusk on this mission at all and the party consists of three Humans (whose sexes change alot) two Dralasites who are wearing jumpsuits and a naked Yazirian.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

LOL, you try drawing a vrusk that looks good with consistency- I'm not surprised that the art is all over the place, sometimes you just draw what you can.

Points taken on the comprehension ability. I would still change the wording to "having a vrusk is strongly recommended" and not an absolute must. otherwise you are forces to rail road the PCs down the one true golden path

BTW a vrusk with psch-social skill gains a +10 bonus on his comprehension ability I beleive.
