Anybody know anything about the Appleseed alliance?

I had a research station on one of the new omega blues that spawned the other day litteraly half a screen from that station's position at the time.  I moved the station onto it and started moving one of my resource stations down there.  Less than an hour ago, I got a message from a member of the Appleseed alliance asking me to move my research station (he has a fleet there now.)  At the point he sent the message, my resource station was less than 1 hour away from the planet (so just near the top of the screen on my large display.  By the time I saw the message, my resource station was just touching the edge of the planet.  i.e. it has arrived.

I told him sorry, but no, I was there first and have a screen shot of the original arrival time of my research station on the planet.  Appleseed is supposedly a defender alliance but the person in question has a personal power level of >22,000 so if he really wants it there is now way I can keep him off.  I don't see a ship yard of his anywhere nearby but that doesn't really mean anything.  I hope he just moves on since he is in a defender alliance but we'll see.  If he doesn't move on I'll escalate to his alliance leader and see what happens there.

Anyone have any exerience with this alliance?

BTW, the planet in question is at 558,2601.  My research station is headed out into the hinterlands now that the resource station has arrived.

Well if Gollwin academy is to be a training alliance where peeps can safely get their feet under them in the game then I don't think it can aligned with anyone because backing up an alliance would expose the trainees to attacks which would be fair game. Unless we're not interested in a two tier alliance. I was waiting to bring over my real account when we decided to form the upper tier of the alliance. But whatever we decide is good.

I agree.  I was just really wondering if he'll fight me for the planet or will back off.  Seems he sent me another message and doesn't want to move.  Appearently he claims that only fleets and shipyards can stake a claim, so he has the prior claim since his fleet beat my resource station by less than an hour.

Okay, so he backed off and "gifted" me the planet.  He also accused me of being a bit belligerant, and maybe I was but I wasn't going to give up the planet willingly.  I didn't know about the details of the claim ettiquite so I assumed that my research station was a vaild claim.  When his fleet arrived (per his arrival report he sent me), my resource station was 4 hours away and my research station had been there for three days.  When he sent me the message asking me to move, the resource station was only 50 minutes away and he had to be able to see it (they don't move that fast).  I basically told him I was there first in good faith and felt I had the claim to the system.  If he wanted it, he was more than welcome to boot me off and I probably wouldn't be able to stop him (his PL is 27,000+ and I'm just barely over 8,000) but I wasn't moving.

However, lesson learned.  Most players only acknowledge claims made by fleets, shipyards, and, of course, resource stations.  Other stations don't count and won't necessarily be honored.  So if you really want a resource put a fleet on it.

Turns out that Appleseed is supposedly a non-combatant training alliance and the guy in question is the second in command of the alliance.  (This was learned from someone who is an advisor to that alliance).

That makes sense.

BTW as a Red Sox fan I would nominate John L Mclaughlin who is the owner of the "yankees no sox will survive" alliance of two for kill on sight status.

Potential negotiations with Alliance Anonymous.

I was just checking on my holds when I came across three fleets and a RS parked around a theta moon I'm holding.  So I messaged the guy:

To:  Rueben Pruitt

Subject:  Theta Ore at 1088,2594

I take it you want to posses this world. :) How about we negotiate a bit and make this beneficial to both parties. We are similar sized alliances in PL and members. You are statisticians and we are defenders. We could work together peacefully trading aid and information.

To which he responded:

how far out are you from having a RS there ?

To which I replied:

About a day.

To which he replied:

shortly after you arrive Ill move off 8 hours give or take

I have not yet replied.  My question is, do we want to press further for a treaty?  Or just let this drop?  He did not take the bait and he may not bring it up with his alliance members.  How do we want to go about treaties?  What is our foreign policy?

EDIT:  I just read a bit above in the thread and reminded myself about this being a training alliance so maybe the question is moot on a treaty but we could have a policy on what kinds of one time deals we feel is safe for the alliance members to make.

You are correct a training alliance can't really go to war as all members become fair game. Thus it cannot meet normal treaty obligations like supporting a treaty member who was attacked, though non aggression pacts are certainly popular in game and no reason we can't discuss that with other alliances. Occasionally some turkeys in game hit a training alliance and don't care which then requires first diplomacy then because of the nature of the offense an extreme response if diplomacy failed.
