Are there any benefits to sending stations into deep space for protection?

Are there any benefits to keeping stations moving at all times?

Do either of these methods this make it hard for enemies to find your stations?

What are the tried and proven strategies for protecting stations?

Having them out on the edges would seem to make them less detectable than if they are around stars and planets since most players aren't going to be scrolling out that far just for fun.  So it should help reduce serendipitous discovery.  I don't think it will help against probes.  And then once someone has found you via probe and you're way out there, they may start looking for other stations in the deep as well.

I think moving simply helps increase the error circle on your position.  If someone found you and wants to come after you, having your stations on the move would cause them to not be where they were when they found you when they arrive.  However, unless your stations are fast and/or the person after them are far away, they may not have moved very far by the time the ships arrive.

On thing that has been mentioned by Jedi, Shadow, and in the general chat is not to cluster.  I asked in GC what that meant and they said if you can hit the scan button and find two or three stations in the scan, that's a small cluster.  I know I have a few planets that fall into that category.  They recommend being at least spread out enough to not show up in that manner to help make it harder for someone to hunt you down that way.

You just can't hide from probes though. It costs 100 probes to find a station. So if someone is cheap they use 100the and then scroll around looking for the rest. If you are clumped together then they got you. If you are spread out and they really want to hit everything you have then they'll have to work for it. Clumped together makes you a target. Plus driving up the levels of attack, defense and hit points on your SY is smart since SY are how you project power in game and thus are the logical point of first attack. Take out the ship yard and it will take time for the player to respond while you mop up the rest of the stations.

Also it seems to me that the edges of the map where they have made provision for new players tend to have lower value property at a certain point in game you have to transition to claiming and defending better properties where there is higher traffic. A little bit of nature of the beast with that.
