PCs are colonist in cold sleep but wake up to a deserted colony either on the planet or still in their journey class sleep berths aboard ship in orbit. Basic idea is "Lost" meets SF

There is an ag ship, a mining ship, the re-purposed "station" ship and shuttles
Adventure plays out with each session being an investigation of the station ship, the mining ship and the ag ship and the colony site on the planet. PCs must amass clues as to what happened and take steps to ensure their own survival.

The above would give you at a minimum 4 major investigations/ play sessions then you'd transition to the build up to the climax- 3-4 stage build up to the climax which should be more action oriented.

Plot twist: Xeno-forms native to the planet which are hostile to colonist, imported plants and animals are susceptable to native microbes, saboteurs, Robotic Brain named Hal is malfunctioning,
etc.

Colonists arrive at the proposed location of the colony only to discover that their Ship has been delibrately sabotaged, the ship's communications equipment has been destroyed, and the ship's engines have enough atomic fuel to supply the colony until they can discover an alternate power source. Basically the colonists have been stranded in a new world.

After several adventures the colony is established and then they discover a set of ancient artifacts on the planet, which they unwittingly activate releasing a race of genetically engineered bio-weapon that now threatens their very survival.

Colonist organizers discover an incredibly earth like world, WOW, what luck. Colonist arrive and begin to do the colonizing thing.

a millienium ago another alien species Von Neuman probe arrived on this planet and began terraforming it. Protocols and sub routines begin to activate in the probe and it begins to try to deal with the invasive invader called man.

Mechanons have been secretly harvesting the crystals for their AI brains on the planet targeted for colonization. Since the colonists will likely stumble upon the "crystal farm" and could report the findings they have to be eliminated.

Even if the colonists escape it leaves alot of metaplot and storylines that can be developed. Why do the Mechs need so many new crystals? Are they building an army? If so, to fight whom?

The basic Colony is set up but small, the last supply ship to come brings a plague & when attempts are made to contact the rest of civilized space for help the colony can no longer raise anyone and it appears they are the last survivors of civilization... assuming they can stop the plague and now deal with surviving the rather hostile world with only the resources they have.(Think "Greenland/Iceland"  and europe ignoring them) and was the plague an accident or introduced on purpose? & if they manage at a latter date to get back up in space to find out if anyone else is alive they may find a rather hostile response to them surviving the plague or maybe the are surrounded by plague worlds and they really may be it?
