Star Flight An Alternate Campaign setting For Star Frontiers

Okay one of the things I am working on with URS Project is the creation of Alternate campaign settings or Campaign model's based on one of several Core rules sets. The Star Frontiers (URS) rules set being the core component for futuristic Campaign models. I was thinking about creating several Spin off Campaign settings that had nothing to do with the Frontier as we know it, and one of these is Star Flight.

Star Flight is set in the not so distant future (Earth maybe 200 years from now so it is about Star Frontier's level tech but no hand held energy weapons) and Earth has already successfully colonized many of the planets within the solar system, but there is no planetary government so different countries or Alliances of countries have control over certain colonies. Anyway about 20 years before the start of the game a team of scientists discovered that at a cetain speed they could send an object through what has now been called the wall into subspace allowing it to travel incredible distances in relatively short amounts of time (Light years in months). This has led to a new space race as planetary governments fight to be the first to plant their flags on planets in new star systems.

What I want to do first is create workable and feasable timeline taking us from now to the point when the first exploratory ships are ready to embark on the first interstellar journeys. (shameless plug, but this is why I'm very interested in the work being done over at the Colonization Workshop because it ties in nicely to this setting).

One thing though I really want to avoid in this timeline is the Americans do it all mentality. I want to approach this with as little bias towards any one country as possible.

Why not reboot Earth and say they all came under one flag - individual countries kept their local traditions - however the people were ruled by a militaristic government body ensuring the longevity of the human race.

I think that a lot of it has to with my long running love of Twilight 2000, and Traveller 2300 (or 2300 AD as it is sometimes called). But I just don't want to adapt that setting to Star Frontiers. I think at this point the idea could become a human only campaign setting with cybernetics and nano-technology creating sub-human races that have been adapted for a particular environment, with maybe the idea of first contact coming sometime in the future of the setting and might be the trigger for all the star spanning nations to join together in order to survive, or remain divided and succumb to the nasty aliens.

With that in mind I think that the idea of different governments squabbling over colonization rights to the few habitable planets that they can get to might lead to interesting adventures. I don't usually do hard Science fiction often, but I think this might be my first foray into that arena.

The timeline in star grunt game by GZG sounds like a good match for what you are trying to do. Its free by down load.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!
