RCS Dark Shadow

Refer to: RCS Dark Shadow.

This is the captured smuggler ship that the Royal Marines acquired in WoWW. It was recommissioned as the RCS (Royal Consular Ship) Dark Shadow and is used under authority from the Crown, staffed by either civilians or Royal Marines depending on the mission.

I used the basic HS:5 layout from the module but expanded it, adding a 'tween decks area (forward maneuvering nozzles/hydroponics) and an engineering deck. A computer maintenance shaft runs between the bridge and crew deck (a la Gullwind). A lifeboat replaces the small launch on the crew deck. Aside from a few minor alterations and furnishings, it resembles the canon deck plan closely albeit more realistically.

The thrusters were upgraded to PGC Eurekas to permit the addition of a masking screen launcher, and also allows higher acceleration with lighter loads. A Universal Cargo Rail is affixed to the stern, permitting any combination of Trans Travel cargo containers (see the TT-456 Container Ship in the Deck Plans project for more details on that) totalling five units or less.

It's a work in progress, and I may eventually revaise the specs to echo a modified TT-456 at 1m squares (I realized my mistake at rendering it at 1m squares when the canon ship is 2m squares only after completion LOL), dropping one of the drives along the way if so.

Okay I revamped it. It's now a Streel vessel, cloned from the TT-456 Container Ship from the Deck Plans project and re-specced to HS:4 as such. The engineering deck looks much cleaner with the two drives (if you missed the three drive lay out, you really didn't miss much...it was a real hodge-podge to say the least to make this a tri-drive HS:5 ship).

Looks nice, but I must have missed something.  What was she commissioned to do?

Non-combat missions.

Perhaps spying missions or "entrapment" to weed out local belt pirates etc. It could even transport emmisaries to other systems (under escort via CMS ship) such as for a Council of Worlds meeting (think "Tantive IV") or such, and fetch supplies that would normally be contracted to civilian haulers (such as weapons for the Royal Guard/Marines). It would also make for a decent transport to service the deep space system ships we mentioned in the ships thread (supplies, replacement crews, etc). Long story short --- there are many missions where dispatching a warship is overkill (not to mention taxing the remaining craft fo rregular duties while said ship is gone).

Lots of possibilities. Jedion's future-WoWW (set several hundred years in the future) game utilizes a small freighter for a lot of their missions, it can be handy having a non-warship for a lot of stuff. There was even a suggestion for converting a cargo container for shuttling star fighters around the system as a mock carrier.

I revamped the engineering deck --- it's now "in line" with the other four decks and I added the interior details to the workpod as well as a docking mechanism (rather than having it just hazardly hanging there).

I also revamped the cargo container to the proper scale, it was initially drawn half-sized thanks to my "oops moment" a la 1m vs 2m squares. The exterior graphic was also redone to reflect the actual size/scale.

It's done.
