This encounter has been removed from the competition by the letter V and the number seventy-billion.

I'm at the library trying to come up with ideas for my submission to the contest. I'll start a post for each idea.

To make ends meet from time to time you are contacted by Mr. Smith. You've never met him but that's really no concern, he always pays. He often gives you odd jobs that require anonymity for those he represents. You are respected by most law-abiding local authorities as you travel the frontier core worlds.

You're chronocom beeps indicating you have a non-audio/video message. A holographic page appears; "Jacen, I'm rescheduling our meeting for 1640 local time at 311 Forth street. Sorry for an in convenient. trish will be there right aound 1700'ish. -- mr. smith"

Smith. That's credits in the bank.
"I'll have to use a public terminal - see the "ish" at the end of 1700 - I add ten to the code, correct?"

Finding a local library you access Gobblesync and check email - message from Polua. Clicking on the secure link you enter the Mr. Smith's code; 164031141710. Logoff, catch some grub and wait for a reply on your chronocom.

Overview

  1. Get assignment (Meet at docks to track/protect cargo carrier to drop off point, watch our for the Black Hand Gang - if asked, "What are we looking for?" reply with, "Some kind of stealth technology, tweenligth, twilight shirt or something.")
  2. Cargo should arrive at Eastman Industries parking garage (in basement) where Star Law will receive shipment.
  3. Man exits the back of the transport dressed in a long jacket. As he moves the party spots (INT check) strange dark fabric under it. It's like looking into the dark recess of space, very disorienting. He holds the jacket around his body trying to look casual but obviously concealing the clothing.
  4. Party can fight, chase or track.
  5. Chase leads to building where party has to break in - either by force, coercion, stealth, hack security system or other means.
  6. Party can find security camera's showing 4 sathar interrogating the man.

If you like this, please post and I'll continue (running out of time at the library)

1. its not whether I like it, do you like it?

2. the set up sounds like a long established relationship, what you might consider is writing a generic contract that any GM could use in their campaign. Sounds like you're going toward a theft or intercept with this.

3. if sathar are involved then why not make it a technology that is satharish? maybe it was stolen from them and the "mr smith" is a sathar agent who is scrambling to get a team in place to steal it back from the Merco or other operative who stole it. do they discover before or after they are to turn over the item for the cash that its for the sathar? Is the tech/item dangerous? should they keep it?

a smash and grab is a good one evening gaming usually as long as it doesn't bog down at some point.

a general contract for hire would work well as filler inbetween 2 major adventures- almost a "hydra escapes from the zoo" encounter.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I'll write this one for the competition. It's actually a re-hash of the Frontier Space introduction I wrote with Bill. :-)

NPC Contact
Write several plot hooks that link the NPC Contact to the player(s). The Ref can select the most appropriate.

RiskCo
A team of mercenaries from RiskCo, a subsidiary of MercCo stole a defensive technology from a group of Sathar agents operating out of Drumane. Mr. Smith believes they will sell it to the highest bidder on the black market and does not believe their ally Streel is aware. Your party is the closest team Mr Smith has in-system (any system you want) and  wants you to retrieve the technology. It should be a simple "smash and grab".

Mr. Smith Plot Hooks
  • He wants the tech off the black marker for the greater good of the frontier and will turn it over to Sector6.
  • He recently was duped by a Sathar agent and is under their control
