Ok. Number 1 the prize is a stone colored "Castro Style" embroidered hat that cost me $20 to make that was intended as a game reward for the players reaching the Pirate outpost in the Volturnus Campaign that would have been handed out when they discovered a crate of spare skien suite that had been part of their expedition equipment but sadly that group broke up so the hats have sat in a box. Rather than let them continue to sit doing nothing I'm putting up a hat as a grand prize for an adventure writing competition. See pictures below.

Deadlines:

Completed submissions must be uploaded to this project in a format I can open and read (see rules on front page) by May 8th 2010 and an email must be sent to me (jedion357) through this site (please dont use the message feature as that would max out my site message box's space). I check my email pretty much daily and if I do miss a day I dont miss two in a row. So again please use the email feature of the site and not the message feature.

Depending on the number of submissions, 1 week (2 if there are a lot of submissions) after the contest closes on May 8th I will start a poll on this site for the community to vote for the best encounter. My role in the judging is simply to rule on completeness of the submission. The Poll will run for one week and I will announce a winner and mail the hat. In the unlikely event of a tie I'll judge between the two.

The winning adventure will be spot lighted in the Star Frontiersman in an upcoming issue and all contest submissions will be considered for future edtions of the Star Frontiersman.

Concerning artwork- its always nice. The competition is intended to get people writing and submitting content. If you create artwork you can upload it separately from your contest submission. I will only judge the finalist entries on the basis of whether its a complete encounter. No doubt the editor of the Star Frontierman will name his next born child after you if you do submit artwork to accompany your adventure as that will make his job easier. But this is just a writing competition so artwork must be uploaded or submitted separately. But please feel free to come up with art for your adventure.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Concerning the requirement that documents have to be what I can open:
I have microsoft word, a windows word file will be ok but PDF docs are kind of nice.

To that end I recommend http://cutepdf.com for the free version of their cute pdf writer.
It installs on your computer and acts as an auxillery printer. When you go to print and the windows field comes up, you can switch the printer from your main printer to the cute pdf software and it will simply print your document as a pdf to your hard drive in the location that you specify.

So that said I will consider any document that I can open and read.

I am looking for complete encounters that a GM can open and run with virtually no notice other than having read it once before.

You must start a forum thread for you entry and state your basic idea. This will give me a read on the number of entries and how much time to allot for review at the close of the contest.

You can use the thread to brainstorm and I encourage all the contestants to offer feedback on each others progect.

This is intended as a friendly competition with the prize as a little incentive with the real winner being the fan zine.

Hey Jedi!
Very cool to see your competition getting off the ground. Great idea.

I will start a thread later on my adventure idea. Do I put it in here or in the main forum?

At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy......

do it in this project so as to not junk up the main forums with a short lived contest.

FYI: I extended the deadline to May 8th since we're a few days into April- this give you to 5 weeks and the last day is a Saturday (usually a free day for most people so its a last minute chance to get the submission in). After that is 1-2 weeks for me to review the entries and 1 week for voting and we should have a winner by July 1 or so.
