Starhunter

The basic setting of the Starhunter setting is something of a "hodge-podge" of many sci-fi standards and cliches.  Starhunter is set in the Milky Way galaxy, in an area roughly 500 light year radius from Earth/Sol.  Numerous worlds, various races and many factions vie for control of Known Space.  Humans, vrusk, yazirians and dralasites all exist here, as do many other races - the saurian, militaristic alkharn, the caterpillar-like oduvu'urian scholars, the arthropoid kusokuri warriors, the avian, religious gengangi, and the bizarre plant-like gossaur.  The Confederated Commonwealth, the Bezherani Empire, the Eco-Tech Coalition, and the Ixuti Expanse are among the major powers in Known Space, each with their own agendas and varying levels of cooperation or hostility.  Plots center around conflicts with corporate interests versus citizens' rights, exploration versus exploitation, freedom versus tyranny, and ecology versus industry.  Influences include Star Trek, Firefly, Farscape and the 2300 AD game.  More to come...

Eco-Tech Coalition? Is that similar to the Saints from David Weber's/John Ringo's McClintock series?

I wouldn't know; I haven't read Weber/Ringo's McClintock series.  I envision the two primary races of the ETC (the dralasites and the malloreans; more later) as the shapers of this union.  The dralasites in this version are an aquatic race who developed technology without the use of fire, based on magnetics and kinetics.  The malloreans grow their bio-tech.  The two races are technologically advance and very "green", i.e., eco-friendly.  Is this in any way similar?

Before I answer that question, let me just say, whoa! I love the concept. Completely different from what I've seen out there thus far.

In answer to your question, no, not by far...the Saints of the McClintock trilogy twist all the ideas of the shrubbies(and New Age religion)into a justification for a semi-theocratic dictatorship which makes Nazi Germany look like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood...in fact, their most fanatical warriors are known as Greenpeace commandos.

BTW, I am working on a wiki of the Starhunter game (which is a d20 game; sorry).  I will still post material about the setting and the campaign (non-game system specific) here, though this wiki-work (and other project) is why I haven't added anything here in a while.  I've enjoyed the other posts here; keep it going!  Also, when the Starhunter wiki is ready to launch, I'll post the link.

I just added one of the races of Starhunter: the byshinti.  I always liked the basic concept of the ifshnits in SF, but didn't like the name and some of the deatails.  So, I created the byshinti to replace them.  The file is in the d20 form, but conversion to the old SF is easy: use the ifshnit!

I just added the Starhunter version of the dralasite race to the "Documents" section.  You will note that I did not include game/stat information.  That's because it copyrighted.  For my own game (remember, d20 version), I use the drals as they appear in the d20 Future rulebook, with the Aquatic-adapted template from the d20 Future Tech book.  The main thing here was to show a look at their history and outlook in the Starhunter setting.

I just found out that there was a Canadian broadcast (UK/France produced) television program called Starhunter.  I've never seen it myself.  It ran for two seasons, 2001-2003.

Starhunter the SF game has nothing to do with this show; its a name I've been using for sci-fi stories and games since 1984.  In the setting (in both stories and gaming) there is a nefarious ship by the name Starhunter....

Wow, I hadn't realized I'd been off this topic in so long.  Lots goin' on in my life, but I promise to get back to this soon. The wiki is slowly proceeding, as is the conversion from Star Frontiers to d20 Future.  Likewise, I still have plans for material to submit to Star Frontiersman.  I need to focus, that's all...
